Trump has left the United Nations’ Human Rights Council
THE United States is leaving the United Nations’ Human Rights Council.
US envoy to the UN Nikki Haley called it “an organisation that is not worthy of its name”, marking the latest withdrawal by the Trump administration from an international institution.
Ms Haley said the US had given the human rights body “opportunity after opportunity” to make changes.
She lambasted the council for “its chronic bias against Israel” and lamented the fact that its membership includes accused human rights abusers such as China, Cuba, Venezuela and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“We take this step because our commitment does not allow us to remain a part of a hypocritical and self-serving organisation that makes a mockery of human rights,” Ms Haley said.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, appearing alongside Ms Haley at the State Department, said there was no doubt that the council once had a “noble vision”.
“But today we need to be honest,” Mr Pompeo said. “The Human Rights Council is a poor defender of human rights.”
The announcement came just a day after the UN human rights chief, Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein, denounced the Trump administration for separating migrant children from their parents.
But Ms Haley, cited longstanding US complaints that the 47-member council is biased against Israel.
She had been threatening the pullout since last year unless the council made changes advocated by the US
“Regrettably, it is now clear that our call for reform was not heeded,” Ms Haley said.
Still, she suggested the decision need not be permanent, adding that if the council did adopt reforms, “we would be happy to rejoin it.”
She said the withdrawal notwithstanding, the US would continue to defend human rights at the UN.
The move extends a broader Trump administration pattern of stepping back from international agreements and forums under the president’s “America First” policy.
Although numerous officials have said repeatedly that “America First does not mean America Alone,” the administration has retreated from multiple multilateral accords and consensuses since it took office.
Human rights groups have condemned the pullout, saying it will “make it more difficult to advance human rights priorities and aid victims of abuse around the world”.
Likewise many people on social media have drawn a comparison to the President’s disturbing immigration policy, which sees young children separated from their parents.

With his record, Trump is surely next in line for sanctions for human rights abuse.

Re: Trump has left the United Nations’ Human Rights Council
After his crime against children, Trump is assured prosecution as soon as he leaves office (by impeachment or otherwise). He is guilty of espionage, money laundering, selling favors of office, conspiracy against the United States, statutory rape (the Epstein incident) and RICO conspiracy mob activity. But cruelty to tiny children is the final nail in the coffin. (Incidentally, I'm now wondering if Sessions and the Tutonic Titwillow might not be prosecuted, too.)
I'm having visions of Trump being arrested, Trump in an orange prison jumpsuit, and Trump in a line having to shuffle to chow with other prisoners. Perhaps they will train a 24-hour camera on him, so we can watch him on the Internet like they do at the Bronx Zoo. It would be a rare exhibit: President on view 24-hours (except when pooing and peeing).

Re: Trump has left the United Nations’ Human Rights Council
Coming in the midst of appalling reports of children being separated from their parents and detained in distressing conditions, the announcement that Trump now plans to quit the UN Human Rights Council has elicited sharply hostile responses. Amnesty International posted the following tweet.
Hillel Neuer of UN Watch responded by supplying ten good reasons for doing just this. (You can read them here.) He also spoke very eloquently about the problems with the UN Human Rights Council on BBC’s Good Morning Scotland earlier today (from about 47 minutes in). He pointed out not just the glaring problems with some countries on the Council but also the way they are supported or indulged even by countries with comparatively good records. You don’t have to think Trump’s decision was the right one (Neuer doesn’t) or in any way approve his own record on human rights to think that some of the blanket, kneejerk condemnation of the move is misplaced.

You want to see why the UN is a joke
Just look at the countries condemning Israel, being that they have the worst human rights records going
What it takes is a Palestinian and son of a Hamas leader to show up this sham

Re: Trump has left the United Nations’ Human Rights Council
Where is the left shouting from the tree tops against the crimes women, homosexuals, political prisoners, ethnic and religious groups suffer under countries like Iran, China, Russia, Venezuela, Saudi etc?
They are constantly silent.
And why?
I will leave posters to figure this one out
I condemn Israel on some of its policies and actions. I have no issue doing that, but when one country is singled out compared to the rest. Then you know something very sinister is going on and yet the left are continually silent over this
You have to ask is this an age old situation of antisemitism. When in reality, women, homosexuals, ethnic and religious groups have far more rights in Israel, than the countries I listed above.
You make up your own mind on that
Yes Israel should be held accountable for wrongs, but why is the left never holding accountable the Muslim Theocracies, and socialist dictatoships within the world?
Because now the left have allowed the belief of Zionism, to be a reason to now discriminate against Jews and yet they never apply the same reason to the failure of state Socilialism in practice or failed Muslims states. They dont want to be seen as prejudice, but have no issue being prejudiced towards Israel and by extension Jews.
It makes them regressive and no fighters of universal rights.
They are constantly silent.
And why?

Post like this Straw man Bullshit are exactly why your a useless wanker that gets ignored
maybe if you had any dignity You wouldn't shout so loudly about shit that is none of your business, that No whose business it is Give the slightest shit about your opinion and will just as like continue Out a Spite for your brain dead prattling.
Maybe the left is smart enough to Pick it's battles (one it might win because it has some horse in the race) instead of insanely Shouting at the clouds like a lip service hypocrite that's attitude is just an extension of Colonialist Eurocentric outlook that 'dickheads that can't even manage a Union with their neighbours' have right to tell others on the other side of the planet what to do.

Lol, I see the village idiot cannot actually counter my points but prove them, now claiming they pick their battles
Tell that to the millions of homosexual victims around the world
To that to the women victims
To the many children abuse with FGM
The many child brides in the world
Tell that to the countless ethnic and religious groups persecuted around the world
You are simple an ignorant c unt period and a two faced twat
I thank goodness people do not take you seriously, because the reality is, again on universal rights
The moment you make this slective, then it ceases to be universal
This is why I general ignore your rants and ramblings
The reality is the UN is now a joke and has been for many years
In the end it will destroy itself from within
The worst human rights abusers, now hold the position to vote against any policies against their nations
For Syria to be the chair on the prevention of chemical weapons, shows how badly this body has fallen

Re: Trump has left the United Nations’ Human Rights Council
Keep a close watch on the mid-term elections, this November. It will be a bellwether election.
If the Democrats take the House, a bill of Impeachment will be a certainty. Trump has shown himself not only to be corrupt, but a perverted character as well (statutory rape alongside family separation is not a pretty picture).
If the electorate is as moved by the baby-snatching, and the general inability of the Republicans to govern, as I imagine, there will be a new president in 2019. We cannot continue with the corruption and sexual deviancy in the WH. (All the sheets and bedding will have to be replaced.)
Democrats must be mindful to bring a bill of Impeachment against Mr. Pence as well. The evidence shows that Pence was working with the Russians and he failed to disclose Flynn's negotiations to lift the sanctions with Russian Ambassador, Sergey Kislyak.
