The Factories Are Still Closing Down..
In late 2016, Trump and Pence proudly declared that as a demonstration of their central "Make America Gwate Ag'in" election campaign, they would save the Carrier air-conditioning manufacturing plant, stop it having to move to Mexico, keeping thousands of jobs in the USA in the process...
Early in 2017, this was one of the Trump administration's first moves, advancing tax breaks, gov't assistance and cheap loans to keep the Carrier business on home soil..
So, where are they now, 18 months later ?

Re: The Factories Are Still Closing Down..
Once again, the Trump administration does not understand the problem. The enemy is not Mexico or China, but tooling and technical improvements that reduce the need for labor altogether. The jobs aren't going overseas. They are just going! We've outgrown the concept of manufacturing envisioned by the Trumpsters.
It's even bigger than that. Just as factories are retooling, eliminating jobs, so are methods changing, eliminating whole industries...with the Trump gang woefully behind. A classic example is the administration's attempt to cast West Virginia as victims of trade imbalances. West Virginia's primary industry is coal.
WTF!! Coal is late 19th-century, not modern 21st-century. This is the age of solar and emerging wind and hydraulic sources...using coal is like trying to ship goods on Chinese junks or Indian dug-out canoes.
But such idiocy resonates with conservatives and those behind-the-times.

I understand that there are now processes for removing the dangerous "fall out" from burning coal, anyone know of it ?

'Carbon dioxide Sequestration'.. can remove and store the"Greenhouse gas" portion from emissions from coal burning power stations-- however, while test plants have been built, it has still to be implemented successfully on new large scale plants...

As for the ash content, heavy metals, and other toxic gases (e.g. NOx, SOx..), processes have been in use to "wash" emissions from power plants, smelters, etc, since the 1960s and'70s, (though these measures are still being neglected in some third world countries and "backwoods"/remote areas..). With 'greenhouse gases' like CO, CO2, Methane and Ethane, these will remain dissolved in solution and pass through "washing" processes -- hence the industry interest in sequestration for CO2.
