Owen Smith sacked over call for aecond referendum

Potentially a grave error by Corbyn sacking a senior minister with strongly held but long standing views.
Whilst some would argue against st his Brexit stance, few would deny he was a very effective shadow NI Minister.
He has a lot of respect and significant support amongst party members.
He was Corbyn's chief opponent once, could he mount another challenge?

Not in a million years, haven't seen one tweet supporting him. All those that are remainers, as am I, are completely behind JC on this. Glad he got rid of him, frankly I think he has been useless on NI, have you seen him say or do anything about the border problem etc? He's slimy little toad anyway. He has less support now than he did during the leadership farce, when JC wiped the floor with him. Anyone who Liz Kendal supports has a problem.

How Corbyn worshippers never see anything wrong in what he does

Personally, Corbyn is no more than a stooge and platform for the Hard left to manipulate and use

To then justify your worship of Corbyn and agree on actually leaving the EU, you then are critical on his appointments

Its like i said. Corbyn, could literally walk into westminster, drop his pants and take a crap and his supporters would emulate him in their work places. As iff this was a sign, that having a shit, brings you closer to looking and smelling like one

Not only that, give a taste of people living under Momentum councils and I gurantee, that come the next election. They will never vote Labour again, if Momentum controls Labour

Is Owen Smith’s sacking an attempt to distract from Labour’s anti-Semitism row?

In the past few minutes, Owen Smith has been sacked from Labour’s Shadow Cabinet after he wrote an article calling for a second referendum and continuing single market membership.

The party this evening released a statement from Jeremy Corbyn which did not thank Smith for his work but instead praised the record of his successor as Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary, Tony Lloyd:

‘Tony is a highly experienced former Government Minister who is committed to ensuring that peace in Northern Ireland is maintained and helping to steer the devolution deal back on track.’

This is an interesting time of the day to put out a statement about a sacking. It’s also interesting given there is another, much more serious row going on in Labour today about a photo of an anti-Semitic mural that Jeremy Corbyn commented approvingly on:

Labour MPs who have been campaigning against anti-Semitism including Wes Streeting have been pointing out that Smith was dispatched for an article that he wrote in today’s Guardian, but that the response from the leader’s office to Berger’s complaint has been rather less decisive, with a statement released this afternoon saying ‘In 2012, Jeremy was responding to concerns about the removal of public art on the grounds of freedom of speech. However, the mural was offensive, used antisemitic imagery, which has no place in our society, and it is right that it was removed’.

This issue could end up being far more damaging to the Labour Party than one Shadow Cabinet sacking. I understand that emotions among some MPs are running very high as they feel the leadership has persistently refused to take anti-Semitism seriously.

How is it that I see the same with Moderators not taking antisemitism seriously on this forum?

And it always comes from the left and even earlier today, we saw some of the worst antisemitism again from Veya, around zionism

He sees zionism as comparable to islamic extremism

I am sorry, but how many zionist terrorist attacks around the world have their been compared to islamic ones. Country, by country?

You see, this is why some of the left are emphatically brainwashed to hate Israel and how it often pushes over into antisemitism

This was Diane Abbott four months ago, calling for a vote on the final Brexit deal. She was not sacked. Owen Smith said exactly the same thing today and Corbyn fired him. Almost as if Team Jezza are trying to distract from their worst anti-Semitism scandal yet…
