Hard up nurses
I have just left Hospital after contracting pneumonia, I spent 10 days feeling as weak as a Kitten. The staff were wonderful as was the food.
Please don't let me hear that Nurses are badly paid, I used to think they were until I heard them discussing holidays, Places they had been included, The Maldives, Bahamas, Mexico, Cuba, one had been on a World cruise ! These were not Staff nurses or Sisters just ordinary basic Nurses.

Re: Hard up nurses
FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Instead of being grateful and glad they managed a holiday, because by god they need it, you just make assumptions. Yes, I know a nurse that went to the Maldives, did she pay for it, no, her husband did. I know of others that managed to get to Tenerife etc, by going without and saving for bloody years.
Here are the pay scales for NHS nurses. Bottom starts at £7.88 an hour,

Re: Hard up nurses
So the vasy majority of nurses are on a very good wage. You choose to show the lowest band which is £7.88 per hour
That is the basic wage not including unsocialable rates
I worked with many nurses when i worked at the NHS and like I say, many got to sleep during the night.
I would love to be paid to sleep

Re: Hard up nurses
Nurses aren’t always great at their jobs, I’ve witnessed many, many, many, lazy arse nurses during my time in hospitals visiting sick family members. Standing around talking, slovenly moving around and looking moody, sighing when you ask them to do something.
If they go on holiday - good for them!
Does anyone go into nursing for highly paid positions or because it’s a vocation?

Nurses deserve more pay. They get all the nasty jobs, and work long hours. Angels them all.

Re: Hard up nurses
They aren't all in it for the vocation by any means. They don't do much of the yuck jobs anymore. I've personally experienced very good caring nurses. That said with my mother in law it was so bad we ended up complaining. The attitude of most of the 'nurses' on her ward was disgusting, it was all older women, that might have had something to do with it, they were no where to be found half the time, ok visiting time no one minds them being in the staff room but a lady on the ward was very distressed no visitors with her) trying to climb over the cot sides on her bed and making a pretty good effort too. I went to find someone and found everyone was in the staff room and if looks could kill, as they say, when I asked if someone could come and see to her. Twenty minutes later she was still in danger of falling out over the rails and no one had come so I went back and tried again, a nurse did sigh a bit and then follow me back as this time I stood there waiting until someone moved. The next day this same lady was being fed with such force and carelessnes that she chocked and all hell broke loose. My husband has also experienced almost neglect in hospital and years later total commitment from the nursing staff. Perhaps it depends on how interesting your ailment is.
A nurse I know personally has a four bedroom house, to herself
on a new development on the edge of the village, she changes her car when its due for MOT and has exotic holidays with her friends every year, so I don't think she's badly paid, she works 9 -5 on elective operations, escorting patients from the ward to the theatre.

How bloody ungrateful are you.
Let's not forget their benefits too.
Pay and conditions
The national pay system for the NHS — Agenda for Change (AfC) — is for all directly employed staff except doctors and the most senior managers.
The pay system offers real benefits including:
a standard working week of 37.5 hours
harmonised holiday entitlements of 27 days per year, plus eight general and public holidays, rising to 33 days after 10 years' service
pay enhancements to reward out of hours, shift and overtime working
better career and salary progression based on the application of knowledge and skills
an annual personal development review to support your career aspirations
Other benefits of working in the NHS include training, occupational health services, automatic membership of the NHS Pension Scheme (unless you choose to opt out) and study leave for sponsored courses.
Read more about the Agenda for Change pay rates.
One of the UK's best pension schemes
The NHS Pension Scheme is still one of the most generous and comprehensive in the UK. Every new employee automatically becomes a member and you will get an excellent package of pension benefits.
Find out more about NHS Pensions.
NHS employment policies
Our employment policies:
ensure fair rates of pay for all staff across the whole healthcare system (Agenda for Change)
provide training and personal development opportunities that will enable people to reach their full potential
emphasise equality of opportunity for all
provide good working conditions, holiday entitlement, and other benefits
maintain an excellent pension scheme
They don't do too badly do they?

According to Sassy they are all overworked and under paid. Some are run off their feet, some do the minimum work they can get away with ! The post by Vintage is spot on, i'v seen it first hand many a time. Sassy just talks crap !
