Carjacker disguised by dish cloth makes a clean getaway

A would-be carjacker in Melbourne's east has, police say, resorted to an unusual face covering to disguise himself - a Chux Superwipe (dish cloth).

The man was wearing his makeshift mask when he approached a woman who was sitting in her white Mercedes Benz while parked at Mullum Mullum Reserve in Donvale about 1pm on Sunday.

He was carrying a crowbar and demanded the woman get out of the car but when she kept refusing he eventually ran away towards the intersection of Springvale and Reynolds roads.

As well as the Superwipe the man was wearing a dark beanie, black long-sleeved top and light-coloured pants.

He is said to be tanned and about 175 centimetres tall with brown eyes and short, dark hair.

Victoria Police spokeswoman Alex Day told radio station 3AW anyone who recognised the man was urged to come forward.

"It's gaining a lot of feedback on our social media at the moment, his Chux facemask," she said.
