Veya's first Country music muster
I went to my first country music muster today
I think it means I have officially completed my transition from suburbanite to rural life.
it's a big event locally people come from a few hundred kilometers away, it was held one town over (in Bungendore) from mine (Tarago) only 30 km away. I went with some of the new friends I've made down here in the past year.
Here is a selection of some of the artists
I meet Diane and her husband Peter at a charity event a few months ago, Really nice couple
I enjoyed myself even though if you'd told me a few years ago I'd be going to a country music muster i'd be hard pressed to believe you.

Re: Veya's first Country music muster
I hate Country music. It's got to be the most dull, cliched, corny shite ever.
It's the cheesy angst that gets to me.
Try humming along to "Drop Kick Me, Jesus, Through The Goalposts Of Life" with a serious face?
Or singing along to the merry tunes of "You Done Tore Out My Heart And Stomped That Sucker Flat"
It's all about love gone bad and women who are badder. Who, for instance, can forget the classic, "If I Had Shot You When I Wanted To, I'd Be Out By Now" and "You Were Only A Splinter As I Slid Down The Bannister Of Life".
It's enough to make Leonard Cohen sound like Wham..

Re: Veya's first Country music muster
I grew up with Country Music. I guess it's what you get brainwashed with at an early age. I like all kinds of music, but Country Music is my favorite. I have recently been introduced to Paul Thorn's music and enjoy that kind of satire and humor. I sang "It's a Great Day To Whup Somebody's Ass" at my American Legion Post just last night. It always goes over good. It's the only song I sing where the whole legion hall gets quiet and they listen. LOL

Glad you enjoyed it. I never ever thought I would like jazz but I did when I got older. Some C&W is ok. But not the my wife left me for my brother and my dog done got killed and I’m in a bar now and I’m gonna slit my wrists type of music.

Thank you, but hmmmmm, I'm still not keen. There are a few country songs that I like - mostly ones that have been in the charts and are possibly not very countrified.

Re: Veya's first Country music muster
Country music is kind of divisive! Weird, but the only other kind of music I ever hear people say they just detest, like country, is hip-hop.
Anyway, if you can't appreciate these songs, you're not going to like country. I'll just throw up three good 'uns.

He's not my style, but yes, a lot of his work was country. I remember one of the local country stations did a big tribute to him when he died recently.

A lot of Australian Country music is different more comedic or 'landscape/nature driven', particularly 'bush balladeers' which was the 'specialty' of the Bungendore muster.
I'm still not really into country music but it does sound more suitable when you live out in the country
I've been to 2 smaller concerts, since I'm new and town and the neighbors that I've made friends with asked if i wanted to join them, may as well try and fit in. Life in a town of 300 odd people is a bit different then in the 'burbs

Re: Veya's first Country music muster
Nothing wrong with people expanding their musical experince.
If someone is drawn to country music and has just moved to the country. Is that not a sign of integration?
Fair play to Veya on this
Sometimes even what we like musically, can change over time or that we just recognise other music tatstes we can have.

Thats right
I've integrated Pretty well I think,
partly cause I just go with the flow and have been trying new things that people suggest.
I think I can appreciate most music, particularly when you watch someone talented play live. I played Guitar when I was younger so can appreciate when someone is making something difficult look easy.

If you like that Slim Dusty style and sound, nicko, you might enjoy some of these, too (the last couple are more 'folksy' than country, but still..) :

Of course there's nothing wrong with it. I used to dislike "house" music, and now I quite like it.
One can like a certain kind of music for many reasons, and I guess that liking country music goes along with liking the ambience at gigs or whatever. I like Northern Soul music, and I like the way that people at Northern soul nights dance for hours, largely on their own, and clap after each track. I'm a bit too old to be going to a "rave", but I bet they're fun if you're young.

Re: Veya's first Country music muster
Over the past two years that Ben and I have been talking, he’s sent me hundreds of songs, a lot of them country. I didn’t think I was that keen but there are some really beautifully, melodic and rocking country music out there. Some of them have become huge favourites of mine.
I’ll post some up later.

I love Cody Jinks' music. I hadn't heard Cast No Stones before. It's a great anti-Trump song. I've been singing it now at my American Legion and they have no idea I'm aiming it at Trump. LOL It's really fun to sing.

Most of what he sends you are Americana, Roots Rock, Red Dirt and Texas Country. While much of its traditional country, it's a far cry from that crap they make in Nashville now. Its a shame what has happened to modern country from Nashville. May as well be rap.

Glen said something to the affect that he was a country boy that played pop or rock. He cut his chops in LA playing in the studio for rock albums and actually filled in for one of the Beach Boys on a tour.
Glen's music was like Elvis. It was considered pop when released but slowly became described as more country later in his life.

Not really. He was a Hollywood studio guitarist, gaining fame on Roy Orbison's cut of Pretty Woman. But he hooked up with Jimmy Webb, a CW songwriter who wrote By the Time I get To Phoenix, The Wichita Lineman and Galveston, and he became country.

Lee Kernaghan is probably the biggest living 'Aussie Country' Artist.
Do you actually have much 'Aussie Country' in the USA?
We still have Keith Urban and a number of 'American Country' style artists.
Often Australian 'American Country' style artists are considered 'sell outs' by the hardcore Aussie Country fans
