US court reporter who was accused of causing at least $300,000 of damage to a prominent Houston trial lawyer's art collection while allegedly drunk on a first date could be facing life in prison.

Lindy Lou Layman appeared in court in Texas yesterday on a criminal mischief charge. She is yet to enter a plea deal.

Prosecutors say attorney and former Trump fundraiser, Anthony Buzbee told investigators that 29-year-old Layman got too intoxicated on their date in December, so he called her an Uber after they returned to his $14m home.

She allegedly got angry and refused to leave. She then threw "liquid" (believed to be red wine) over Buzbee's paintings — including two original Andy Warhol's valued at $50,000 each — and tried to tear them down with her hands before throwing two $20,000 sculptures, according to court documents.

Texas law stipulates the value of the items indicates the degree of the charge. Layman could therefore be facing a life sentence if convicted due to the costs involved in the case, The Houston Chronicle reports.

Her attorney, Justin Keiter told The Chronicle his client disputes Buzbee's version of events.

I think I dated her.

She will get a fine and slap on the wrist.
