New Years Honours List 2018

Nice to see Knighthoods for Barry Gibb and finally for Ringo Starr and a Damehood for Darcy. Seems a good all round selection. Really interesting about a man and woman, both aged 101 receiving gongs. Good on them.

Barry Gibb certainly deserves one...he is the only one of the 4 brothers still alive and still performing. He, along with his brothers, have recorded and composed brilliant music for themselves and others for over 50 years.

Bet the queen waited for all the other Brothers' Gibb to pop off first so she didnt have to give out three knighthoods.

I am not a huge disco fan, but whenever one of their songs come on, I automatically smile and start singing away, even their older stuff like Massachusetts.

Great that they are making a real effort to make the honours system relevant to the wider population - eg they have included extremes of age, .... 18yo, and over 100 yo.

Back in the day these honours were confined to the elite, selected from a very narrow demographic group.

Whatever did Clegg get a knighthood for, lying to students?

I don't really see the need for honours unless it goes to people who have given of their time over years to help someone, or do a good deed.

Musicians, MPs, sports men and women et al get paid great amounts of money, doing what they enjoy for themselves.

So did I Eds, once. He put the LibDems in the party graveyard.

I do t know why he's getting knighted, he's done nothing. It's the old pals trick. All the PMs have done throughout history have given gongs, knighthood to friends.

Time to stop this imo.
