Labour Peddle More Animal Sentience Fake News Empty Labour Peddle More Animal Sentience Fake News

Post by Guest Tue Dec 12, 2017 12:28 pm

Labour are clearly taking fake news lessons from the Indy’s infamous viral story about the Tories and animal sentience. Their response to Michael Gove’s new Animal Welfare Bill this morning claims it is not “equivalent to current EU standards” and “does not appear to cover wild animals – giving this Tory Government freedom to pursue their pro-fox hunting agenda across England”This is unmitigated BS from shadow Defra spokesman Sue Hayman…

First, Gove’s bill objectively goes further than the existing EU standards on animal sentience. The EU legislation only recognises animal sentience in EU-related policy in six areas – agriculture, fisheries, transport, internal market, research and technological development and space policies. The new Defra bill applies to all domestic policy, not simply repatriated EU policy, in all areas, not merely the six covered by the EU. By any fair reading, the new bill goes significantly further than current EU standards…

As for Hayman’s claim that the bill does not cover wild animals, this is literally fake news – it does. The fox hunting jibe is also rubbish, the hunting ban ain’t going to be repealed. Labour saw how mega-viral the Indy fake news story went, Sue Hayman’s response today is another cynical attempt to spread post-truth nonsense…

And a special mention for the Guardian’s Jonathan Freedland, who says there is “no need to leave the EU” to secure higher animal welfare standards. Actually we do have to leave the EU to ban live animal exports and products that don’t meet our welfare standards. Jonathan is big on calling out fake news and post-truth politics so sure he will want to correct his tweet…

in this case didge is correct.

and wolfie.....I suggest you learn to keep it shut until you UNDERSTAND GB law.....
The DEFRA bill IS, much stronger than the EU rules.
AND to ban the transportation of live animals for slaughter we DO have to either leave the E.U or secure a derogation (whicch they wont accept)

Just to prove Wolf is very stupid

Labour's Sue Hayman, shadow environment, food and rural affairs secretary, said: "This is a rushed and haphazard attempt to backtrack on the government's mistake of not including animal sentience in the EU Withdrawal Bill.

"There are serious questions about whether this Bill is equivalent to current EU standards given that it does not appear to cover wild animals - giving this Tory government freedom to pursue their pro-fox hunting and reckless badger culling agenda across England."

So my article was spot on to yet again Far Left Commies in the Labour party, lying through their arses

I don't see the EU kicking up a stink about bull fighting either.   Where are they when this heinous sport is in full throttle?   All the fuss about what fucking light bulbs we use and they let the Spaniards torture and slaughter animals in the bull ring.

Wolfie may know a hell of lot about beekeeping and honey production but he clearly knows little, if anything, about the interaction of EU laws and Directives concerning agricultural production and animal welfare standards and the UK's own long-standing regulatory regimes.

Because the present government is committed to "repatriating" EU legislation as it affects this country (which most of it does) there has to be a process under which EU law will either be rejected, in which case it will be repealed from UK law and replaced with measures more suited to this country's interests, or continued but as a full part of UK law subject to our own legal system and not that of Brussels and the European Court.

The proposals regarding the welfare and protection of animals are, as you rightly point out, much stronger and more rigidly enforced in the UK than in much of the rest of Europe (Dutch and French livestock producers in particular have long claimed that our much higher standards put them at a trading disadvantage vis-a-vis UK producers, as it would cost them so much to adopt our standards, and it would therefore be ridiculous to replace our own regulations with measures that are much weaker.

The original article in, I think, The Independent, was based on a complete misinterpretation of the facts and was withdrawn (if somewhat grudgingly) and even the usual Left Wing "luvvies" who saw a chance of a headline or two in it were forced to admit that they were wrong.

Meanwhile, one can imagine the howls of rage from public if the "sports" such as bull-fighting, badger-baiting, cock fighting and illegal hare coursing and farm practices including highly intensive egg and poultrymeat production, crate rearing of veal calves , hysterectomy procedures in pig production to produce disease-free progeny and over-intensive methods of dairy and beef production were to return to the UK agricultural scene.

Labour have fallen equally flat on their faces in now attempting to spin the spectre of Tory toffs in hunting pink trampling over private farmland and peoples' gardens and again letting their hounds tear foxes to pieces...because even in the face of a few Tory MPs' demands for a repeal of the 2005 Hunting Act and even the earlier Protection of Badgers Act, neither the Cameron nor the first May administration - both of which had strong enough majorities to repeal the Acts had they wished to - included anything of the sport in their legislative programmes.

It would seem that Blair's mendacious spin doctor Alastair Campbell and that pair of unscrupulous, lying rumourmongers Charlie Whelan and Damien MacBride are still at work.
