A&E departments
Heard on TV news that A@E departments in Hospitals are now so overcrowded that patients are waiting much longer than recommended. It was said that we need at least another 20 or more A@E departments but we haven't got the money ! BULLSHIT, we give billions of pounds in overseas aid to Countries who don't need it and to others who take the money and shit on us. HOW ABOUT SPENDING IT ON OUR PEOPLE, lets get these A@E departments open !

Do you have a link to facts? I am under the impression that Brits are presently takers, not givers. It seems the only one stupid enough to be giving away foreign aid these days is the Divided States.

Plenty of links on British TV, and you must have read about the billions this country gives away.

Why should it? I'm just asking for the facts.
£12bn is not a whole lot to boast about. We give over three times that much to Israel alone. https://fas.org/sgp/crs/mideast/RL33222.pdf

Re: A&E departments
Did you read the bit about the percentages, some of the smaller countries give 0.7% to overseas aid - besides Britain - Netherlands, Luxembourg, Denmark, Norway & Sweden.
The US, Canada and Japan 0.4%. The US might give more in actual cash but that's only to be expected given the size of the country, per person for each country, its a different story. Imagine the public health service the US could have with just some of the money they send in overseas aid.

Do you know who the largest recipient of US foreign aid is -- with roughly half of that being in military aid ???
It also makes up a significant part of that recipient country's GNP..
The USA could greatly reduce that particular portion of its foreign aid budget, and still have plenty left to give to genuinely needy third-world countries.

Proportion be damned. It's all about economies of scale. You either can make the ante, or you can't. The Americans and China are players; the UK is not.

Japan is a significant donor to foreign aid projects;
Germany isn't exactly a laggard either...
Probably has a bit to do with feeling guilty, nationally, over their part in WWII..
While Australia and NZ (and Canada ?) only appear to be middle of the field/"second stringers" at first glance, they also give a lot of "feet on the ground"/first responder help during natural disasters, along with food and material support -- both of which often don't show up in initial tables and rankings.

What about the billions of dollars that are given to big corporations and their billionaire owners, through extra tax breaks, inflated military budgets, offshore tax havens...
And not forgetting politicians working outside of parliament, lobbying for businesses, or even for foreign interests. And then there's all those retired criminal sex pervert and treasonous politicians and public servants collecting pensions..
These sums would easily outdo any foreign aid, three or four times over -- not only enough to finance A&E dept's but build a few entire new hospitals !
