I loathe Trump but I shall play Devil's advocate here:
Isn't the Daily Mirror picture taken from well to the right of the stage whereas what appears to be an appreciable crowd of attendees are not unreasonably concentrated in front of the dais and tree where they will have the best view of the President and First Lady and the tree itself?
And isn't the previous year's pic taken from an entirely different aspect and concentrated, naturally enough, on the largest section of the crowd?
Just a thought.

As events unfold around Trump , Flynn , the FBI and the courts, this might possibly be Trump's last Christmas as a free man for a while.
Now THAT would be a good present for many.
