Moment benefit fraud police catch ex-Labour deputy council leader, 59, slide his walking stick into a wheelbarrow and push it around an allotment... after claiming he couldn't walk without it
Video footage taken by benefit fraud investigators show the shocking moment a former town council leader who claimed he couldn't walk pull a metal trailer out of his driveway.
Robert Woodbridge, an ex-Labour councillor for Swanley, Kent, received more than £3,000 from the Department of Work and Pensions after failing to notify them of a change in his condition.
But surveillance teams from the DWP filmed the now 59-year-old pushing a wheelbarrow and sawing wood near his home.
In one bizarre moment the man, who claimed he was too weak to use a remote control, can been seen pulling a large metal trailer out of his driveway - albeit with a walking stick in hand.
Woodbridge, of Garrolds Close, has now been convicted of dishonestly failing to notify a change of circumstances affecting entitlement to social security benefit.
He is due to be sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court today.
He had previously made legitimate claims for issues surrounding his health, but did not promptly notify the authorities of a change in his circumstances between August 12, 2015 and January 26, 2016.
A DWP spokesman said: 'Only a small minority of benefit claimants are dishonest, but cases like this show how we are rooting out the unscrupulous minority who are cheating the system and diverting taxpayers' money from those who really need it.
'We are determined to find those we suspect of abusing the welfare system by following up on tip-offs, undertaking surveillance and working with local councils.
'Deliberately not informing us of a change in your condition that may affect your claim is a crime.
'Don't wait for our fraud investigators to find you - tell us of a change now.
'If you suspect someone of fraudulently claiming benefits, then call our National Benefit Fraud Hotline on 0800 854 440.'

Caller: Hello? Hotline? I'd like to report a benefits fraud.
Hotline: Mmm'yes. Your name and address, pleeezzze.
Caller: Never mind me. It's Charles G. Koch and David H. Koch, sons of ole Fred C. They are pushing this scam, called trickle-down corporate benefits.
Hotline: Trickle-down waaa? How does it work?
Caller: It's like an inverted pyramid scheme, just the reverse of Ponzi's old ploy. Ya get the gov'mt to pour all this gold into the Koch brothers' back pocket, and they are supposed to get so much money it spills out everywhere they go.
Hotline: Well, how is this a scam?
Caller: Doncha see? Lil black kids follow them around and they get the tricklin's in copper coins.
Hotline: Copper?
Caller: Yeah, nobody knows how they do it. But they can turn gold into copper, like the alchemists used to say...only reverse.
Hotline: Well, well...where does the gold go?
Caller: That's the beauty of it...the Koch brothers get the government to give the gold to their corporations, which they control. They convince the gov’mt they will spend it directly on the kids,
Hotline: So? The Corporations are the ones who create jobs. Isn’t that a good thing?
Caller: That’s what they want you to think. But, in fact, ole Chuck and Dave use the gold to buy back their own corporate stock. So in effect they are taking in all the money for themselves, in proportion to their ownership in the corporate stock…the giant’s share.
Hotline: They’ve still got to spend the corporate funds.
Caller: No, since it's their stock, it's their money. The corporations are just a place for parking money. They can cash out anytime they want. The important thing is the buy-back. When they own the controlling interest, they own the money. Then, for them it’s a bank account, not an integral part of the economy as everyone assumes. In other words, instead of taking the gold in their back pocket, they swallow it and make themselves fatter. It’s a redistribution of wealth around the world.
Hotline: Um…let me put you on hold.

Re: benefit scoungering labour scum
The largely meaningless and idiotic title to this thread says it all about Smelly's attitudes towards welfare, the disabled in general, workers at large, extrapolating as he does to use a few bad apples to tarnish whole groups...
Smelly' yearns for more cuts to welfare and more austerity for Britain -- blithely ignoring the sad fact that if his dear old mum has to downsize her council flat, then he loses that mouldy old basement that he's been hiding out in..
