This present orgy of media-fuelled hatred, fury, revenge and prurience has gone too far - and a man entitled to be called innocent until proven guilty has died.

Requiem eternam. God rest his soul and comfort his family.

Not so long ago an honorable old soldier who served his Queen and country with gallantry, devotion and distinction had his winter years and his few remaining months with his terminally ill wife ruined by hounding by the media and, shamefully, by the police on the unsubstantiated word of a mentally defective fantasist.

This has to stop. Now.

A line must be drawn under the past, save for those most serious offences that would inevitablly attract a criminal conviction in a court of law and before a jury of the accused's peers.

Most of the sort of behaviour that is at present the subject of allegation and scrutiny is being judged in accordance with the moral standards of today, and not in accordance with what might have been tolerated, albeit reluctantly, in the past.

And while it is now, and indeed always was, morally and from the perspective of social etiquette totally unacceptable, it is not worth the loss of a man's life in this tragic way.

May, Corbyn and the other party leaders have belatedly made a start in establishing what I hope will be a strictly binding code of conduct carrying with it sanctions that will have the desired effect.

I hope they can put petty party political differences aside for once and bring this into effect NOW...in the interests not only of politics and Parliament but of the country and its people as a whole.

The press have always had the power to crucify people before they have had a chance to have their day in court, now, with social media, every Tom Dick and Harry can be judge and juror once someone's name has been mentioned...and so many names are now being mentioned in regard to sexual misdemeanours, even ones that happened decades ago.
Anyone van become international news within minutes now once something is put online.

Cliff Richards  was never even  arrested or charged with a crime after anonymous people accused him of sexual wrongdoings, but he still lived  through two years of hell before his name was cleared in the press.

Maybe not every public figure is strong enough to deal with that....if this man was not guilty of anything, what a terrible waste of life.

Who is 'we'? And who are you talking to?

I doubt most people believe everything they read by any one source anymore....the papers, the BBC,  the internet, everyone has an agenda to push.

By we, I am referring to the lefties, Sly, the purveyors of truth. 90% of the media outside of the BBC is controlled by non dom, tax avoiding exiles.
The same people who call  ordinary, hard working and tax psying folk traitors and enemies of the people for daring to challenge their Brexit agenda.

Well the queen and her family are amongst the tax avoiders, as are many very wealthy people who have always lived in the UK, I doubt that the majority of them are lefties.

My guess is QE2 and Chuck are far removed from those who 'manage' the estates and finances. Charles seems as thick as mince, he seems incapable of managing a piggy bank, let alone a large stocks and shares portfolio.

You could be right...I think the queen is pretty shrewd though, she got away with paying taxes for decades.
