Re: Friday the 13th.
I'm not superstitious, but the stuff my mum insisted on stays with me...like Miffs said not putting new shoes on the table or opening an umbrella in the house.
I don't believe they bring bad luck, I just don't do it because I can still hear my mums panic stricken voice if anyone ever did do it when I was a kid.

The one thing I would never do, even when I was a kid was 'swear on someones life'....remember that?
I could be telling the truth but I would never ever do that, just in case there was a loophole somewhere and the person actually died.

No I'm not superstitious about Friday the 13th. The film freaked me out though.

I said to my hubby - shall we watch a film ? He suggested Friday the 13th
I knew he was teasing though neither of us like horror films .

Re: Friday the 13th.
The origins of some superstitions do have a point....i heard the shoes on table was derived from the time people were so poor they coulnt afford shoes, so if they saw a new pair they would nick them....so dont leave them on show.
Not walking under a ladder would ensure nothing would hit your head if something was dropped.

I was taught to never do that. Also saying you couldn't do something because someone was ill was a no no. It's like wishing illness on them.

Yeah I still do say on my life, or swear on someone elses, because I would never say it and lie.

Yep.....and ringing in work throwing a sickie when you are not so ill....trying to sound like you are dying so the boss would believe you....that usually backfired too.
