Congratulations to Les on his wedding day!!
I'm gutted I couldn't be there due to personal circumstances but I will be thinking of you all day.
I want to take this opportunity to say I'm so, so very happy that you found the person you want to be with forever and making him your partner for life. You are making a special commitment to each other and nothing is more beautiful than that.
I know you'll be incredibly happy together and that the two of you are made for each other.
Shit, I'm going to cry....
Have a wonderful day and may the sun shine on you both now and always.

Can I ask Les, what will you call your husband? are you both husband to each other or will you introduce him as your partner?
Just curious because I know several gay couples but as yet none of them have married.

Just curious because I know several gay couples but as yet none of them have married.
An interesting and relevant question, Syl.
I have recently been on holiday with the new(ish) lady (or Lady - explanation to come later) in my life and the tendency among those whom we have met socially has been to refer to her as "Mrs" or "your wife" on the not unreasonable (I suppose) grounds that as a couple of septuagenarians, we are a married couple.
The facts are that she is NOT "Mrs Moletrousers" (the real Mrs Moletrousers having sadly died some years ago) and she is NOT "Mrs A N Other", as the widow of a late Mr A N Other...because he happened to be Sir A N Other and she still holds the title of "Lady" in place of "Mrs."
As we have not (and will not) marry and she will not take my surname, even though it is a bit posh and double-barrelled, much confusion abounds among our acquaintances.
Now, at 78 and 77 respectively, I can hardly refer to her as "my girlfriend"....so I simply call her "my bit of fluff"!!!!!!!

Bit of fluff marginally better than bit on the side.
I know some older not married couples....and when the man refers to the elderly lady as his "girlfriend" it seems slightly silly....partner seems more apt, even if they don't live together.
I will be interested to know what Les prefers now he is married .

So would I, Syl. And "partner" is a damn fine and appropriate term, in my opinion...it's what we use when we are being sensible.
"A bit on the side" indicates an extra-marital relationship; where there is no legal or formal marriage to be compromised appears to have been left out of the equasion.

Lifes so complicated nowadays.
Do you remember the term "Living over the brush"? aimed at people living together 'out of wedlock'....Haven't heard either expression for a while.

Re: Congratulations to Les on his wedding day!!
had a gay bloke over mine t'other night and he refers to his boyfriend as ''hubby''. I think they call each other hubby in general and women would refer to their partners as wives
is that sexist and gender offensive?

I don’t think so, but I do ask or follow their lead in how people prefer to refer to their SO/OH and then we carry on.
I’m called hen by Mr. C (drives the Americans nuts) or the wife. My names for him are not so polite the boys call him Auldyin or Fatman and me mum/mummy( not mom).

Yes, husband sounds right...for both.
Not sure if Les had a preference,

Husband or wife, depending on the gender, as long as they are married, regardless of if they are straight or gay.
Now, I'm sure they day is approaching when a married gay couple includes one person assuming a different gender, in which case all bets are off. In fact, I don't know if they are even gay anymore.

Re: Congratulations to Les on his wedding day!!
Thanks for the congrats all
I'm now just about rested from what was a long yet magical day. Couldn't have gone any better.
On the question of what we'll call each other, we'll use husband for the most part (and thatis how we were pronounced by the registrar), although living in a country where a few still harbor backward views there will be times when we'll inevitably feel the need to slip to 'partner'. Generally though, and always in the UK, 'my husband'.
Thanks again all xxxxxx
