History tapestry with stitches by Queen and Prince Charles condemned as 'racist'

It took 20 years of painstaking labour, intended to bring communities together and celebrate history with contributions from the Queen, Duke of Edinburgh, Queen Mother and the Prince of Wales. Nearly two decades since its completion, the 267ft-long New World Tapestry has faced its first complaint, on the grounds of racism.

A campaign group has claimed the tapestry “shamelessly perpetuates” an unfair stereotype of Native Americans as “subhuman, warlike savages”, calling for it to be banned from public display henceforth. Scenes from the tapestry, which is currently in storage, show the history of colonisation from 1583 and 1642 , depicting half-naked Native Americans defending their territory after the arrival of Western settlers with arrows and tomahawks.

The tapestry’s designer, 88-year-old Tom Mor, said the work of art is not racist, with all characters depicted in a cartoon-like manner and aimed at reflecting history as it happened. Dismissing the accusations were “rubbish”, he said each scene was intended as a “sympathetic tribute” to teach history with humour.

It's not racist, flipping heck these misery guts look for racist everywhere. They get right up my nose.

It's a fair depiction of how Indians were back in time. They did use tomahawks, bows and arrows etc, it was part of their life, their traditions.

not really they had clothes not just loin cloths
they had quite refined obsidian tools not just  basic stone axes

it Is racist it is just further promotion of the Eurocentric propaganda that others where uncivilized barbarians as if to somehow justify the attempted genocides and theft of land and resources.

if it were real it would show the British/European as the murdering invaders that they actually where, the British where NOT doing any one any favors with their empire it was entirely established to rape and pillage other peoples for the Profit of Brits. it was undoubtedly the white man that was the warlike savage, they are the ones that invaded and murdered peaceful people to steal their stuff.

I just think it's funny that the Brits use the Native Americans as a weapon every time the Americans start going off on British racism ... then turn on the natives when they accuse the Brits of racism as well.

It seems to be a very situational sympathy, is all I'm saying

(btw, the people who started the abuse of American Natives were British citizens)

Its satire and again those who want to see racism, will see racism in anything.

The point is this is satire and hence as usual this is no doubt snowflakes getting in a twist over nothing
