Bushfire Season in NSW Early this year..
The official start to the bushfire "season" over here was declared this week, by the NSW Rural Fire Service (the primary first-response and command organisation for bushfire emergencies -- directly answerable to the NSW guvm'nt..).
Normally the bushfire "season" starts sometime in October, but due to an unseasonably dry winter and current drought conditions, it begins some 4 to 6 weeks early this year..
There have already been several small bush and scrub fires around this region over the past two days -- including 5 hectares (12+ acres..) burnt out around 2 or 3 kms (a 'couple of miles'..) west of here yesterday.

Not that it was unexpected -- back in July, the RFS was predicting an early start :

Tasmania also started their official warnings this week, while some NSW north coast councils introduced their local fire restictions a month early, on Sept 1st..

Alas, we have started ours as well. The largest fire in LA County is blazing in La Tuna Canyon right now.
