The Mexican government has offered to help Hurricane Harvey victims
Trump insists he’ll build a border wall. Mexico says they won't pay for it — and offered Hurricane Harvey aid instead.
Neighbors help neighbors.
That’s the message the Mexican government has for Harvey devastated-Texas. Our Southern neighbor has offered the state aid and assistance to help recover from the catastrophic floods.
They might have gone with “When you go low, we go high.”
That’s because the Mexican government made the offer even though Fake President Trump used the weekend to continue to insist he’d find a way to force Mexico to pay for a wall along the Southern border, something the country has no intention of doing.
Mexico’s response to the president’s tweets was concise and consistent. On Sunday night the foreign ministry issued a formal statement. “As the government of Mexico has always maintained, our country will not pay for, under any circumstances ... a wall or physical barrier built on US territory along the Mexican border.”
But the statement didn’t stop there, despite the American president’s insistence on the wall:
The Mexican government takes this opportunity to express its full solidarity with the people and government of the United States for the damages caused by Hurricane Harvey in Texas, and express that we have offered the US government help and cooperation to be provided by different Mexican government agencies to deal with the impacts of this natural disaster — as good neighbors should always do in difficult times.
On Sunday evening, the Dallas Morning News reported, Mexican Foreign Minister Luis Videgaray also spoke to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and verbally reiterated the country’s offer of aid.
On Wednesday the Texas governor said his state would accept the offer.

Bet Trump feels like a right prick now.

Maybe the Mexican govt still think of Texas and California as still really being part of Mexico...!?
'...The Mexican–American War was fought from 1846 to 1848. Mexico refused to acknowledge that its runaway province of Texas had achieved independence and warned that annexation to the United States would mean war. The United States annexed Texas in late 1845. The war began the next spring.[22] U.S. President James K. Polk encouraged Congress to declare war following a number of skirmishes on the Mexican–American border. [23][24] The war proved disastrous for Mexico; the Americans seized New Mexico and California and invaded Mexico's northern provinces.. In September 1847, U.S. troops under General Winfield Scott captured Mexico City.[25] The war ended in a decisive U.S. victory; the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the conflict. As a result, Mexico was forced to sell all of its northernmost territory, including California and New Mexico, to the United States in the Mexican Cession. Additionally, Mexico relinquished its claims to Texas, and the United States forgave Mexico's debts to U.S. citizens. Mexicans in the annexed areas became full U.S. citizens...'

Brings back memories. The USS Mercy, now given to Mexico, was docked at the Oakland Naval Shipyard for years.
You could see her as you came off the San Francisco Bay Bridge. She last saw real action in Vietnam. She is the largest hospital, ship or otherwise, anywhere in the world.

Trump "talks with forked tongue.."
He knows quite well that he can't 'make' Mexico pay for an American "wall" to be bulit on American soil..
He has already announced previously that he would have American consumers finance his fantasy "wall" by placing an excise on Mexican imports into the USA -- if only he could get that stubbornly recalcitrant Congress to come to the party !

In a leaked telephone chat he was caught trying to persuade the Mexican president to PRETEND that Mexico would be the one paying for the wall, but the Mexican leader was having none of it!
No way, José.

The Texas Revolution came in the context of Santa Anna claiming dictatorial power and abolishing the Mexican Constitution, and Texas was just one of many Mexican states to declare independence. The only difference is that when Santa Anna came to Texas to put down the revolt, the Texians (as they called themselves) actually defeated him.
These Texians were not, as you probably assume, all whites from America. There were plenty of settlers from Mexico as well who took up arms to secure Texas' independence. Here's one of them:
(Statue of Texas Army colonel Juan Nepomuceno Seguin on the Alamo grounds. He's got tons of stuff named in his honor in Texas)
So if Texas should be returned to Mexico, I suppose the United States should be returned to Great Britain. Winning a war for independence means you're independent, correct?
You think the American natives never fought one another and took land from one another? They did so all the time. Tribes like the Commanche and Apache were basically the Vikings of North America.

A rather limited view of what actually happened.
What have you missed out in regards to Texas?
Like the part where US immigrants were invited to settled and be a part of the Texan part of Mexico. To only then turn against them, declaring for the US.
Wow, your last sentence has to go down as the worst apologist argument for the annexation of many lands by the United states.
"Well, they took lands by conquest, even though they were nomadic...So that means its okay if we do"
Missing the point the US took all the lands, breaking every single treaty they ever made with the Native American Indians.

Anyway, back to the point at hand.
I see many countries that are offering aid and its great to see how the world does come together on natural disasters like this.
Though in this instance it really has make Trump look very silly indeed.

Historically accurate and well-stated, Ben. Few people study the course of events of American history. There were 13-different individual nations, and many added after France sold the Louisiana territory to the US. Texas was a powerful, independent state before Mexico came along (remember, Mexico was ruled by the Habsburg European dynasty):
Wiki wrote:Maximilian (Spanish: Maximiliano; born Ferdinand Maximilian Joseph; 6 July 1832 – 19 June 1867) was the only monarch of the Second Mexican Empire. He was a younger brother of the Austrian emperor Francis Joseph I. After a distinguished career in the Austrian Navy, he accepted an offer by Napoleon III of France to rule Mexico. France (along with the United Kingdom and Spain, who both withdrew the following year after negotiating agreements with Mexico's democratic government) had invaded Mexico in the winter of 1861, as part of the War of the French Intervention. Seeking to legitimize French rule in the Americas, Napoleon III invited Maximilian to establish a new Mexican monarchy for him. With the support of the French army, and a group of conservative Mexican monarchists hostile to the liberal administration of new Mexican President Benito Juárez, Maximilian traveled to Mexico. Once there, he declared himself Emperor of Mexico on 10 April 1864
The state of Mexico was established after the US.
