This should be the topic and actual real fear we need to take seriously more than anything.

Will it be sadly too late, until people sit up and do so?

flower

Over-consumption
Overpopulation
Deforestation
Desertification
Pollution
Climate change
Loss of water 'security'...

Like many others before and since,  I've been arguing against these factors since the 1970s..

And every week we are seeing more and more disinformation/fightback/"greenwashing" efforts coming from the offending corporarists and financiers, their supplicant guvm'nts and churches, paid lobbyists and unpaid shills.               sleaze

The hardest part is that it's our innocent descendants who will suffer, not the current greedy perpetrators.
The kind of world future generations will inherit does not bear thinking about.
They won't know how hard some of us tried to stop atmospheric pollution
.... with taunts of ''tree-huggers'' ringing in our ears.

Well I think sadly this era will become to be known as the start of the destruction of humanity. Let alone the countless other species that are going extinct.

Unfortunately, humans are takers. They certainly care but most of the time fail to see the danger of what the future may hold for others. Mainly as they are selfish in the knowledge its unlikely to effect them in the main, in the present.

Smile

The corporatists and their odious lobbyists and unpaid denialists seem to be winning their "wars" on truth and science, week by week --  but unfortunately, those self-serving canutes can yap as much as they like, but they can't change reality -- the Earth's health 'is going to hell in a handbasket'...

And nothing is going to stop the coming 'crunch' from arriving eventually --  no matter how much money the denialists throw into their propaganda efforts..

The problems themselves have also now become much bigger and more complex, than they need have been if only addressed a few decades earlier..

One example :  Deforestation --

The obvious problem is 'not enough trees' !

However,  the simple solution to many people will be "let's plant more trees !!!"  --  but, it's never that simple :
*  trees need lots of water, and in early stages will also benefit from some protection --  plant trees in arid areas, and they die;  it's too expensive and wasteful to transport water and nutrients over distance, so those efforts won't last --  the trees simply die later..
*  planting trees on the fringes is much safer, and more trees will survive each year --  and year by year, the trees are gradually extended into 'semi-arid' zones --  more survive and eventually reproduce themselves; until one day "(some) deserts bloom again"..
*  the right trees must be planted, and with good diversity --  if left to accountants, engineers and bureaucrats, you can end up with effectively "virtual monocultures" lacking in biodiversity and sustainability...

study

For further directed reading on some of these topics, I can point to some of those authors that I have found most useful over the decades...

Economics :
For a more sustainable and responsible take on more community-based and locally-focussed economies, you can't go past  E.F. Schumacher -- and his classic 'Small is Beautiful'

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/E._F._Schumacher

Pollution :
A classic wake-up call to pollutions cumulative effects on the environment --
Rachel Carson's 'Silent Spring'

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Carson

"Natural Farming"
The creator of the "natural farming" philosophy, Japanese farmer, agriculturist and philosopher Fukuoka Masanobu --  ''The One Straw Revolution

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masanobu_Fukuoka

Sustainable Agriculture :
Many people have heard the term "permaculture" bandied around by people who don't actually understand what it is, but you really can't go past those who actually developed that philosophy --
Bill Mollinson  -- "Permaculture: 1&2";"The Permaculture Handbook", and "The Permaculture Manual"..

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Mollison

Water Conservation and Irrigation :
For more cost-efficient water conservation and storeage measures, and more effective irrigation, my first stop would be the developer of the 'Keyline' irrigation systems,  P.A. Yeomans --

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/P._A._Yeomans

Reforestation :
And for one of my favourite authors on trees and reforestation --
Richard St. Barbe-Baker  --  "My Life, My Trees"

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_St._Barbe_Baker

Honeybees, and "Colony Collapse Disorder" ??? :
While I am currently reading a couple of books on this subject, I don't yet have one author or book to refer to yet --  rather, I would look to websites and magazines from beekeeping associations and the various departments of agriculture for up-to-date information..

Three sources I will ignore :
*  anything from the actual culprits (e.g. Monsanto, Beyer, Ciba-Geigy, et al..);
*  any ref. that includes "vegan" or "PETA" in its makeup;
*  any stray/fringe blather site, where the posters don't appear to have any practical experience..
