Vagina surgery 'sought by girls as young as nine'

Girls as young as nine are seeking surgery on their genitals because they are distressed by its appearance, the Victoria Derbyshire show has been told.

Dr Naomi Crouch, a leading adolescent gynaecologist, said she was concerned GPs were referring rising numbers of young girls who wanted an operation.

Labiaplasty, as the surgery is known, involves the lips of the vagina being shortened or reshaped.
The NHS says it should not be carried out on girls before they turn 18.

In 2015-16, more than 200 girls under 18 had labiaplasty on the NHS. More than 150 of the girls were under 15.
Dr Crouch, who chairs the British Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology, said in her work for the NHS she was yet to see a girl who needed the operation.

"Girls will sometimes come out with comments like, 'I just hate it, I just want it removed,' and for a girl to feel that way about any part of her body - especially a part that's intimate - is very upsetting."

What on earth prompts this? This silly striving for 'perfection' at such a young age?

I would like to know exactly how many nine year olds have asked for Vagina reshaping - because I bet it's not as common as the headline makes out.
However.
One is too many and even if the women are older and asking for this procedure, all I can say is....products of the vain and sad society we live in now.

They are discussing it right now on BBC2 Victoria Derbyshire. 219 girls had it in one year. Only a few, I know but still pretty disturbing. It's on the increase.

The problem seems to be that they seek online confirmation of beauty, and how they should look. Basically with big firm breasts and a vagina like a child. A Barbie doll look.

Specialists are asking for it to be banned before 18. I should have thought that was a given.

Jesus, what next.

I think social media is to blame for much of this, plus reading about it with stars having this and that done.

At 9 it shouldn't even rate on their radar.

I find the more "attractive" women seem to want to be, the uglier the world is becoming.

My God, if any of those girls is below 18 the surgeon should be prosecuted instantly, for female genital mutilation.   Female circumcision is an abomination and so is labial restructure or any other genital plastic surgery below 18 yo.

There was another thread where a 12 y o mormon girl 'came out as a lesbian' amid much fanfare. Why would anyone be concerned about romantic love, and affairs of the heart at such a young age??  It seems kids are getting more and more precocious with every passing year.
