Very interesting read...

Seems it was the communists in the north who were oppressing people there and confiscating property and land from them... also encouraging others in the south to engage in a socialist uprising...

And it seems that American involvement really got going under President Kennedy...

Trust poor li'l ol Tommy to come in late, and put a completely misleading spin on historical events in S.E. Asia...

Vietnam's problems didn't start with the commies sweeping down from the North';  but with the mess that France left behind when they bailed in the early 1950s..

If it hadn't been for the French occupation having already broken the country, the communist insurgents might not have found it quite so easy to gain influence there in the late '50s.

And fleakeeper seems to have forgotten that France was in ruin because of WW2 and were not able to keep a strong presence in Vietnam during that time... hardly bailing out...
