Teen Who Lost Arms Becomes Unlikely Basketball Hero

This 13-year-old boy doesn’t let his condition keep him from doing what he leaves – even if it means playing basketball with no arms.

Jamarion Styles lost most of his arms from a disease he had as a baby. Despite always wanting to shoot hoops with the other kids at his community center, they would never let him join the teams because of his disability.

Then finally, after months of denial, Jamarion asked Darian Williams, the basketball coach at Eagle’s Landing Middle School in Boca Raton, Florida, if he could just be given a spot on the team.

Unable to resist the teen’s plea, Williams added him to the school’s basketball team.

His acceptance turned out to be a good thing, too; Jamarion was able to prove his worth later during a game when he sank two 3-pointer shots – one of which won them the game.

I was happy to see him play and score. It must have meant the world to the boy and he deserved his chance to play. He clearly has helped cross barriers and shown no matter his disability, that he can certainly play basketball for the school team.

He will  be an inspiration to other kids with severe disabilities that's for sure.

My grandson fell 25 foot from a tree when he was 13, the doctors who treated him said the angels were on his shoulders because the fall could have been so much worse.
His arm took the brunt of the fall and is quite badly damaged and always will be. He hasn't let the deformity hold him back at all, though for a couple of years he played on hot sunny beaches with a long sleeved jacket on which was heart breaking for us.

Kids are so positive when bad things happen.....I love stories like this one in the OP..

Thanks, and it hasn't. I don't think he even thinks about it now and neither do I unless I read something that reminds me.

Obviously he is not nearly as badly off as the lad in the video.
I love the way he says at the end he wouldn't want to change how he is now, he doesn't even need his arms anymore....truly inspirational. x

Its is more than anything excepting who we all are, that is half the battle for many people.
He is very inspirational in ho he can inspire others to overcome their own fears and learn to deal with their own disabilities.

My son has an artificial radial head from falling over a two foot wall back in 2011 - he has just had to give up playing his bass guitar because the neck is too long and heavy . He's disabled with it but still gets on with life .

Pleased your grandson is getting on with life also .

I'm sorry to hear of your sons accident, its amazing how people learn to live with disabilities and just adapt their lives and get on with things.
Its not the height someone falls from is it, its the way they land, we always thank God an arm was damaged not a head, back or neck.

Yes that's true because when my son was in A&E they asked how high the wall was and by that could tell what injury he might have . It was horrendous for us as a family and for my son and his then fiance who was expecting our grandson , they thought he would not be able to work again as the injury was so bad , they had never seen a radial head so damaged and other bones broken from the fall in his forearm . But he is doing good he has a full time job and is lead singer and now lead guitar in a band , I asked how is lead guitar any different to bass and its the neck weight and length so that told me lol .
Yes thank God both our family members were safe and I do believe an angel was with your grandson that day .

It's brilliant your son has done so well after such a bad injury.....I honestly think when things like this happen to people we love it makes us so grateful for things we may have taken for granted previously.

I do believe in angels vod, and yep.....a couple seem to have been watching over our families when they both needed help.

My grandson is just 20 now and at York uni, he is studying medical science......not sure who he got his brains from but it certainly wasn't me.
