The 'Pink moon' set to light up the sky tonight
The 'Pink moon' set to light up the sky: April's full moon rises tonight and will appear close to Jupiter (but don't be fooled by the name)
The first full moon of northern spring is set to light up the sky tonight in a phenomenon known as the ‘Pink Moon.’
But, those hoping to catch a glimpse of its rosy hue are headed for disappointment.
The Pink Moon isn’t actually pink, but instead earns its name from the flowering of the brightly-coloured herb ‘moss pink,’ which typically coincides with its arrival.

THE 'PINK' MOON
The Pink Moon isn't actually pink.
Instead, it is named for the flowering of the brightly-coloured herb ‘moss pink,’ which typically coincides with its arrival.
It’s also known as the Grass Moon and the Egg Moon.
In the Southern Hemisphere, where’ it’s not autumn, it’s called the Hunter’s Moon, according to EarthSky.
Rather than a rose-hued moon, April's full moon will appear bright white, like any other.
In the Northern Hemisphere, the April full moon lines up with the blooming of one of spring’s earliest-flowering plants – wild ground phlox (or, moss pink).
It’s also known as the Grass Moon and the Egg Moon.
In the Southern Hemisphere, where it’s now autumn, it’s called the Hunter’s Moon, according to EarthSky.
While the name of the April 10-11 full moon may be a bit deceiving, the event won’t be entirely ordinary.
During this time, the moon will appear close to Jupiter.
‘And Jupiter is special now because it’s only a few days past its April 7 opposition, when we passed between this giant planet and the sun,’ according to EarthSky.
‘Jupiter was closest on April 8, that is, closest to Earth for all of 2017.
‘So Jupiter is at its brightest and best now, and near tonight’s full moon.’

Load of parochial bulldust...
What's the odds, 99% of the world will never have heard of a "pink moon"..
