Congress asks Trump to produce evidence he was wiretapped by Obama

WASHINGTON -- The House intelligence committee is asking the Trump administration for evidence that the phones at Trump Tower were tapped during the campaign as its namesake has charged.

Fake President Trump asserted in a tweet last week: “Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” He continued the allegation against former President Barack Obama in other tweets but offered no evidence.

On Saturday a senior congressional aide said the request for evidence by Monday was made in a letter sent by the committee chairman, Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., and the panel’s ranking Democrat, Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., according to the aide, who wasn’t authorized to discuss the request by name and requested anonymity.

Obama’s director of national intelligence, James Clapper, has said that nothing matching Mr. Trump’s claims had taken place, but that has not quelled speculation that Mr. Trump’s communications were monitored by the Obama administration. Trump has asked Congress to investigate.

Early this week, Schiff said the committee would answer the president’s call to investigate the claim. He also said that he would ask FBI Director James Comey directly when he appears later this month before the full committee, which is investigating Russian activities during the election.

“We should be able to determine in fairly short order whether this allegation is true or false,” Schiff told reporters Tuesday evening at the Capitol.

It's very interesting. Trump, by bring up this silly accusation of wiretapping, may have cemented the wider discussion on the whole Trump administration. Where he thought he was widening the scope of the investigation into oblivion, we find he is legitimizing the investigation and shutting doors for opposition to conclude "nothing here".

shouldn't you be putting yourself in the basement for knowingly misrepresenting what was written in that article

I have read that article twice and nowhere can I find the term fake president trump.

I know you are bitter and all bent out of shape because the chosen one could not claim her birthright but there is no need to make up fake news.

Technically, Trump is not a "fake" president, but a "minority" president. That is, he was not elected by a majority of the voters. In fact, he had about 10-million more voters who voted against him than voted for him.

But "fake" is a fair representation, considering that the Russian cloud still hangs over him, and no doubt will haunt him till the end of his one-term. It certainly is the case that his win was artificial...if not fabricated.
