Police fire stun gun at their own black Race Relations Advisor after mistaking him for a wanted man
Police officers fired an electric stun gun in their own black Race Relations Advisor's face after mistaking him for a wanted man, it emerged on Friday. A passerby filmed the officers confronting 63-year-old Judah Abunbi - who works to smooth relations between police and the black community - and ask for his name.
But when the indignant grandfather refuses and tries to enter his home officers shout "Taser" and shoot the electric gun at his face. Mr Abunbi, one of the founders of the Independent Advisory Group set up by the police with the BME community in Bristol, then falls to the ground.
Police chiefs have admitted the local community in Easton, Bristol - and the BME community as a whole - would "have concerns" about the incident. The video shows officers approach Mr Abunbi on the street outside his own home and ask him for his name.

I wonder why he did not comply by giving his name to 2 uniformed police officers?
That is because you do not have to provide this, especially when they are not explaining as to why they are stopping him.
What they did was appalling, and excessive force
Heads will no doubtly and rightly role

Major wrote:There are circumstances on our island that you are obliged to give you name to a police officer, it is cloudy in some areas of 'Stop & Search'.
Why would you not give this info to a policemen?
Check for facts, Thorin.
During a stop and search what information do the police have to give me?
The police who stop and search you must provide you with certain information including:
- Their name and the station where they work (unless the search is in relation to suspected terrorist activity or giving his or her name may place the officer in danger. They must then give a warrant card or identification number)
- The law under which you have been stopped
- Your rights
- Why you have been stopped and searched
- Why they chose you
- What they are looking for
During a stop and search what information will the police ask for?
The police officer will ask for your name and address and date of birth. You do not have to give this information if you don’t want to, unless the police officer says they are reporting you for an offence.
Everyone who is stopped or stopped and searched will be asked to define his or her ethnic background. You can choose from a list of national census categories that the officer will show you.
You do not have to say what it is if you don’t want to, but the officer is required to record this on the form. The ethnicity question help community representatives make sure the police are using their powers fairly and properly.

You were saying Major?
The Police fail to follow procedure and if they failed to inform why they were stopping, then why should anyone provide their name.
The Police fucked up big time

This wasn't 'stop& search'... this was potential identified suspect criminal arrest...

Which comes under stop and search.
Which is all irrelevant to the fact the police failed to comply in regards to questioning a potential suspect
He does not have to give his name and they wrongly mistook him for someone else and even worse failed to give any warning to use the taser. Which was not needed. He was only trying to get into his house and the Police wrongfully tried to detain him, without verifying who he was.

Not stop and search... this was possible identified criminal suspect and move to establish identity and arrest...
When you are stopped as a suspect of a crime in an arrest situation and asked to identify yourself then you are legally obliged to do so.

Wrong
It is the same rules on stop and search as i have shown
Again you do not have to give your name
Which is all irrelevant over the excessive use of force onto a 70 year old man
Where police have to pre-warn of the use of taser gun
She never did.
They approached him failing to do the following
The police who stop and search you must provide you with certain information including:
There are number of rules and regulations regarding your rights if you are suspected of a crime. If the police do suspect someone they also have a number of powers and rights as set out in codes of practice.
Powers of the Police
If the police suspect a person has committed an offence they do have a number of legal powers. The police and the actual rights of the suspects are set out in the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984. If the police have reasonable suspicion that an offence has been or may be committed they do have the power to stop, detain, and search a member of the public and their vehicle. The public should always ask why the search is taking place. If the police do not have good reason then the search should not continue.
Grounds for Suspicion
Police officers need to have reasonable suspicion before they can stop and search a member of the public. If an officer simply has an instinct then that is not justifiable enough to commence a stop and search, although it may warrant justifiable observation of a suspect. Reasonable suspicion can include observing a person acting suspiciously enough to warrant a stop and search.
Searches and Discrimination
Searches by the police must be undertaken responsibly and fairly. The power to stop and search can and has been abused by the police in the past, and this can be an infringement of the public’s rights. Any type of discrimination that is used in the stop and search process can be deemed unlawful discrimination. The police cannot discriminate on the grounds of race, colour or nationality. They also cannot discriminate against certain groups such as football fans, although this does happen.
So we are back to stop and search
Their name and the station where they work (unless the search is in relation to suspected terrorist activity or giving his or her name may place the officer in danger. They must then give a warrant card or identification number)
The law under which you have been stopped
Your rights
Why you have been stopped and searched
Why they chose you
What they are looking for

Re: Judah Adunbi Tasered
Not stop and search of completely unknown/unknown individual to establish possible crime... this was possible identified known and wanted suspect of already established crime being committed and wanted for arrest!
Different rules!

There is no different rules as seen by the rules applied by the British Police
They suspected a person based on no sound reasoning, other than a view to looks
They then failed to follow how to stop and question and suspect and even worse failed to give warning to the use of a taser
If he sues, the Police will no doubt settle out of court, as they would lose

Re: Judah Adunbi Tasered
No... potential ID of criminal wanted for arrest... different from general stop and search rules... suspect must identify themselves or will be arrested and taken to station for establishment of identity.

No its not, as I have proven
They first of all did not know the person they were stopping was the person they were looking for
It was based off looks
They as seen did not follow procedure and from the off demanded his name
Thy never stated the reason, or where they were from, or what crime had been committed or why they were stopping him, let alone showed their identity. They demanded his name
He does not have to give his name, when they fail to follow procedure or even when they do.
Which is besides the point, one of the officers took it upon himself to deny him access to his home, thus causing an incident. Even after a neighbour verified who he was.
Then the female officer used excessive force, when none was needed. When the other officer outweighed the 70 year old by at least 30 pounds. She never even issued a warning. Fear took control of her and she acted poorly.
Goodnight
