Here’s What People With Disabilities Want You To Know
Spoiler alert: You’re just like everyone else.
This is one powerful PSA.
SoulPancake, a feel-good website dedicated to sharing inspirational stories, created a video that shines a light on what it means to live with a disability. Spoiler alert: You’re just like everyone else.
“Society doesn’t correlate disability and being attractive,” one woman says in the video. “We are beautiful people. Everyone’s beautiful in their own way.”
The video is part of the organization’s “How You See Me” series, which takes a personal lens to how society views different minority groups. It’s is a beautiful reminder that a person is not their ability ― and in a culture where even elected officials mock disability, the messaging could not be more important.
Over a billion people globally live with some form of disability ― from autism to spinal cord injuries ― and as many as 190 million adults have significant difficulties in functioning because of their disability, according to the World Health Organization. Yet it’s incredibly stigmatized, which research shows can lead to damaging health care and cultural implications.
“We’re only given one life ― and you gotta be proud of it,” another woman in the video explained.
Exactly.
Take a look at the video above to see more from people who are living with a disability.

Inspiring....the lady that spoke last made me smile.
It's odd how sometimes some of us treat people with disabilities....I just think it's because we don't know how to act...do we offer help, do they want it?.
My son went to a mixed nursery where severely disabled children and children with no disability mixed freely together....he was hyperactive so managed to get a place there.
He has grown not seeing any difference between all people.
Maybe nurseries and schools could take this on board more.....make everyone see (from early childhood) that people with disabilities are just like we are.....normal.

Its true syl, many for some reason feel uncomfortable, which they have generally brought on themselves. Many just wanted to be treated just like everyone else and not to have people tread on eggshells
That is what is needed, that it has people mixed to normalize children growing up with others, that they do not feel awkward or shy away from people with disabilities. So completely agree with your points

Thanks Thor....it just seems that kids accept everyone, and once that happens it's the norm to them from then on.
Sadly EVERYONE gets judged on their looks now ...it must be a hundred times more difficult when you are being judged on your disability as well as your looks.

I agree a 100%
Kids only learn from others bad things or are as seen in the other thread that Eddie posted, given too much attention or to little attention and play up. A happy medium is needed for children to learn and even more so when they realise. That many are born without any disabilities. That they have nothing to moan about in comparison. When others like with disabilities face far greater struggles and other come these challenges. Its a lesson for many kids to learn, that can help them all excel in life.

I don't remember that thread.
There was one about disabled models. I think it started off about the girl who lost a leg at Alton towers, she posed for some stunning lingerie pics the following year.
