yup, you can hand em in to any bank for a one for one exchange...even AFTER the old ones cease to be legal currency

Re: £1 Coins
We had our 'Susan B. Anthony' coin dollars that were removed from service because they were almost the same size as a half-dollar...despite the polygonal sides.
They are collector's pieces now, so seems de facto, no one lost any value.

Because, according to Scrat elsewhere, I am a Fascist Nazi, BNP spokesman tax evader who is stealing "his" money, do you think that I should make a start on swapping the £1,000,000 in round one pound coins that I have have been secreting in my sock drawer since decimalisation?

The new pound reminds me of the old thruppence!
My all time favourite coin was the half crown: You could get three pints of beer, fish'n'chips and a, ahem, packet of three...and still get tuppence change!

A twelve-sided coin ?
I wonder if they're buying the 12 sided blanks from Australia (we've had 12 sided 50 cent coins down here for a few decades now..).

Fred, you forgot you could get into the cinema as well. As an aside I bet there's not many on here remember the "Saturday" morning picture show that you could get in for a "Tanner".

Interesting, so many different terms for British currency. Because of our frontier days, we had coins that were 2-bits, 4-bits, no 6-bits...but a dollar. How much is a bit?

TC would've swooped down on this post, stamped his feet in consternation, issued a three day ban, bleated well beyond the point of reason about rule breaking, and without doubt shuffled a few off at his bench in celebration.Fred Moletrousers wrote:Major wrote:£1 round coins will cease to be legal tender in October 2017 being replaced by a 12 sided coin.

No, much older than that. Bits were worth 12 1/2¢...during the California gold strike, particularly before banks were opened. It acquired the name because a bit of gold dust sufficed for currency. When 'coin' came to realm, 2-bits were the equal of 25¢.
An old football cheer from around the turn of the century went like:
"Two-bits, four-bits, six bits a dollar,
All those for Berkeley stand up and holler,
YEAAAAA..."

I've mentioned that scrat can be a bit, um...quixotic. The trick is to follow your own advice, more than ever...don't follow that lead into a personal pissing match. Rather, ignore it and get right back into the debate.
There ought to be some on-line classes on modding.

You ought to speak up EVERYTIME you see something Quill.
That's the reason people don't respect you quite as much as they should. Sorry, but there it is.
I either fight shit with shit or I ban someone everytime they lie and insult me or another.
What do you suggest? Nothing is working is it?
There are certain posters you seem to be a little afraid of challenging.

I don't think fighting "shit" with "shit" is the way. There's a way of rising above it, but it requires patience and a little detachment.
Each time someone makes you boil inside, it's because of what's inside you. Strengthen that which is inside, then go out and cooly undress the person. There's the way.

Rise above it. You don't have to let it in, ya know. The Internet is only words.
I think it's kinda fun, leaving some bad guy dangling with his shit-pot tirade, and no answer. Even if no one else notices, he catches the insult: your words are not worthy of attention!
Then sometimes I say it out loud. He still doesn't get an answer, in substance, to his tirade.
Obviously he gets it...cause it's the biggest thing in his life, else he wouldn't have started it. Look, he keeps coming back. You haveta understand what's going on out there.
