Northern Soul
A few people here are fans, so here's a thread for you. I'm curious as to whether there are followers of Northern Soul in the US. Most of it originated there after all.
I'll start with one of the finest and most well-known Northern Soul tracks, as well as probably the most expensive.
Frank Wilson - Do I love you (Indeed I do).

Re: Northern Soul
There were a couple of tracks on that film I was telling you about, can't remember what they were now, my knowledge of Northern Soul is very limited.
The one you posted is pretty okay though. How much would that cost?

It's very rare in it's original form, but you might be able to get it for £25,000 or so.

Re: Northern Soul
Wow. That's astounding!
I recently sold some vinyl and had a really crappy regaaae album (the guy just couldn't sing) and someone bought it for £65.
No accounting for taste I suppose.
You'll have to watch that film rags, there may be some rare tunes that you've never heard.

That's not bad going!
I had a look at the track listing for the Northern Soul film, and there are some on there I don't know so I might get it - as well as watch the film.
There are a few I already know, and I have the actual single of this one. Mine is listed as "Moses Smith", but it's the same track.

Re: Northern Soul
I'm not an ectaul Northern Soul fan per se, but I did enjoy the music as part of the film and I'd have probably got in to the scene back in the day....I love the dancing.

I love the dancing too, and one of my goals is to learn some new NS steps.
I just love Northern Soul - I could listen to it all day, every day, and never get fed up with it.

Kim Weston is one my favourites. She signed with Motown in 1961 and had some success, but she left in 1967. I don't think this one was released at the time, but it's a good one! I'm sure I can hear an electric sitar in there, but maybe not.

Nice documentary Bella.
Dottie Cambridge - Cry your eyes out. Fab track IMO.
Dottie was apparently Dorothy Moore of The Poppies. She had a hit with "Misty Blue".

I was looking for a video of Gwen Owens' Just say you're wanted, and I came across this modern version by the Originators - a band from the Netherlands. I think it's really nice.

It's a real foot tapper isn't it? I don't think it was originally recorded in the '60s, more like the '80s or '90s.

Love this track and video by New Street Adventure. It's not strictly Northern Soul - but it has that sound. It features the fabulous Levanna, who's also made loads of videos of herself dancing to Northern Soul tracks.

Bloody great! To spin like that and dance like that he must still have been doing it regularly for all these years. I remember once in a restaurant I was dancing in, this guy got up and tried to dance with me. He was about the same age and had a bald head and beer gut but had obviously been a northern soul dancer in his youth. Up he got and round he spun with his nifty footwork, and then he tried to do a back flip but was too fat. By this time he was blood red in the face and breathing heavily. Then he tripped, crashed into some couple's table like a bowling ball and knocked their kebabs and hummous up in the air. I laughed so hard. But we all gave him a round of applause.

Haha! Bless him! He gave it a good go though, and that's always admirable. I wouldn't even attempt a back flip! I prefer the nifty footwork anyway.

Good grief! I found this clip of "Footsee" from Top of the Pops in 1975. Everyone said the footage had been wiped. Some say it should have been. Not me though!
