Mack the Boxer
Hailing from Melbourne, the young family were forced to create a GoFundMe page last week to fund the vet bills for their saviour dog.
Mack’s life hung in the balance last week after he killed a tiger snake which had been hiding less than two metres away from the couple’s two-year-old daughter. The boxer had been bitten a number of times trying to protect young Carmen.
Jo ran outside to find Mack foaming at the mouth and a dead, four metre tiger snake nearby.
Facing kidney failure and a 50/50 chance of survival, the outlook was bleak for their young boxer.
After being told by one vet they’d work until 11pm and then see if he made it through the night, Jo and Leigh furiously rushed him to the U-Vet Animal Hospital in Werribee.
The hospital immediately started the poisoned dog on blood filtration and called in their snake expert.
Jo told news.com.au it was their efforts and the 24/7 care that meant Mack was still alive today.
“Just save our boy, we’ll get the money,” Jo told them.
After realising how much money the young family would have to fork out — $6000 in vet bills — Jo and Leigh faced the harsh truth — they would need to sell their prized 1968 Holden HK Kingswood sedan.
It was that tragic decision that would turn their luck around.
After posting it on the HK HT HG Buy/Sell Facebook page, a number of the group’s members implored the couple to not sell their car, instead helping them set up a GoFundMe page for Mack’s vet bills.
“You’re not going to lose your pride and joy as well as your dog,” they told them.
Members from the group started sharing and donating with their family and friends and it snowballed from there.

Today, exactly a week after the incident, Jo and Leigh have raised $50 over their target from more than 200 donors.
The story is especially heartwarming considering the time of year when everyone’s purse strings become a little tighter with Christmas just around the corner.
While plenty have added their names to the donations, a lot of the donors also chose to remain anonymous.
“It’s amazing but that’s the hard part — trying to say thank you when we don’t know who it is. It’s overwhelming ... having those messages of love and support is exactly what has got us through,” Jo said.

Why is it that a BOXER breed will look at you just like they are looking deeply into your very SOUL. Such a noble dog, such a wonderful brave protector too!
