Snoopers charter
Has become law very discreetly.
They can now monitor what you view and what you post.

That might make a few posters here and on other sites a bit wary.

Re: Snoopers charter
Isn't this where now the Internet service providers have to keep up to 12 months of data history usage of customers but still only available for access by police/authorities if they have specific investigative reason of serious crime or terrorism and only allowed to access after they have obtained judge/court approval...?

Re: Snoopers charter
Thats the one Tom.
Internet hits on a wide range of proscribed groups and about 10 key strategic words trigger a 'ping', which is recorded on a computer. Several identical , linked or similar pings trigger a 1st stage investigation.isp, name of client, pnc check etc.
It escalates after that.

Indeed it does. Anyone who believes that govt agencies (including the police) do not share confidential information contrary to law and the given public assurances live in Toytown.

I thought that sort of thing was already going on and has been for many years?
Isn't this new thing about the forcing of ISPs to keep a 12 month history of Internet usage of each user?
And for a specific users data to then be available to police/authorities to access if they are under investigation and police/authorities have gained a judge/court order to do so?

Re: Snoopers charter
I understand it puts the entire surveillance system on a more open, transparent and legal footing. It 'ahould' make it easier to track suspects.

Re: Snoopers charter
Google seems to always want their users to agree to let them store info.
I suppose if it could help to track paedophiles down....or vicious trolls, it's worth giving up privacy.

They want it for neither reason - they're in it for the money.

I am uneasy about it. Whilst it will give the investigating authorities more power, it will also lead to more claims of and opportunities of abuse of power.
That said, thee are clearly plenty of Anders Breiviks and Tommy Mair's out there - as well as ISIS supporters who all need to be stopped before they can action their warped ideals.
If vetting the internet spares lives, on balance it is probably worth the intrusion into our privacy.

I agree. About the most risqué thing on my computer is when I got a load of 'spanking' sites up. I was actually trying to find stockists of Spanx underwear for my friends mum.

I don't much care about Google either - too old now to do anything worth reading about.

Always use "incognito" mode when indulging your fetishes.

This is an intrusion of privacy and a way of keeping tabs.
The world is starting to resemble that new film that's due out "Equals". A world without emotion and people living like robots.
Looks very good.

I often use an old and more obscure search engine - Dogpile.
Just its name makes me larf. I think of Tom Monk and private Storm
