A tsunami warning for waves up to three metres has been issued after a 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit northeastern Japan.
Tokyo Electric Power Co said it was checking its nuclear plants in Fukushima prefecture for any damage.
The epicentre is not far from Fukushima's Daiichi plant, which in 2011 had a nuclear meltdown following Japan's strongest-ever earthquake - a 9.0.
Monday's quake struck off the Japanese coast, 67km northeast of Iwaki city, at a depth of 10km, the US Geological Survey said.
TV pictures showed ships moving out to sea from Fukushima harbours.

Tokyo also felt tremors from the earthquake - which struck at 6am local time (9pm GMT), according to Japan's Meteorological Agency.
There are so far no reports of damage or injuries.

Re: Tsunami warning for Fukushima after strong earthquake hits Japan
At least 15 people have been injured in a 6.9 magnitude earthquake that shook Tokyo early this morning.
A woman in her 80s broke her leg when she fell down the stairs and a woman in her 70s was injured when a cupboard toppled over.
People raced to higher ground as the quake hit off the north-east coast of Japan just before 6am local time.
The quake, which was initially put at a 7.3 magnitude, struck 67km northeast of Iwaki city, in the Fukushima Prefecture, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued tsunami advisories for much of the nation's northern Pacific coast.
After warnings were downgraded, the agency advised that another large quake could be expected within the next few days, and people in the region have been advised to “remain cautious” for the next week.

I burst out laughing at that, you are such a pathetic creature with the brains of a louse. Did we have a collection when the nuclear reactor got hit? No we didn't. Never mind ol' fella, at your age obsessions are normal lol

You're so stupid sometimes. What a pointless comment.

MAJOR is so brain_fucked stupid, it's truly incredible...
And not quite natural..
On the Contrary, Japan has been one of the leading contributors to disaster relief efforts over recent decades..
Every time that Major seems like he can't be any more clueless, he outdoes himself with some new crappola like this latest effort !
