She is a military anti-interventionist, actively opposing Obama's plans for strikes in Syria and attempts at regime change and previously opposed the war in Iraq (which, nevertheless, she actually fought in). She also opposes NSA's spying overreach, is an advocate for military gender equality and LGBT rights, is skeptical of current US policy towards Saudi Arabia has a strong pro-environmental and renewable energy stance. tl;dr she's a youthful Democratic party progressive who backed Sanders even at the risk of her own position and prestige in the party, who has 14 years of military and political experience, who has gotten herself into virtually no major personal-life scandals and who manages to tick all the non-standard-demographic boxes.
