Church Pews

Today, I hade a phone call and I bought my third lot of oak old church pewz for recycling, the oak is very hard.

They will be delivered this week and will all be cut to economic lengthz and planed up clean, free of stainz and paint.
Any scrap will go to an old geeza as kindling who livez nearby

I have a lad who workz in a timber yard to do this for me for a few quid, I do not handle them.

Then I sell them on to a regular customer.

Wish I could get more, these come very cheap because they are in the way, taking up space.

you will find that a LOT of church pews are in fact NOT oak but in fact parannah pine

still a lovely timber and now very hard to get hold of

Vic my dad used to work in the timber trade. He was able to tell where a piece of wood came from, or what it was, by smell.
He used to win wagers at work.

yup doesnt surprise me at all eddie

every timber has its own unique smell and characteristics, and some real gifted folks can tell a lot about the timber from them...

I get prime local english air seasoned oak at £40 per cube foot
and air seasoned local larch for £10/cube foot

I have recently refurbished a antique carving knife from a canteen of cutlery as a present for a friend using lignum vitae scales for the handles, last bit.
Twaz laborious work, so hard but the polishing worked out good then her asked me to stress it some to match the rest.

HOW ABOUT a piece of Scented Rosewood, open air dried for 20-30 years in a paddock out the back of Mullumbimby, legally obtained and sitting under the back of a relatives house for the past two decades ???
