IMF To Change Growth Forecast For UK
20th January 2014
Just ignore the IMF - they know nothing compared to George Osbourne!
The International Monetary Fund is on the brink of upgrading its growth forecast for the UK more than any other major economy, Sky News has learnt.
The Fund is poised to increase its projection for UK growth in 2014 from 1.9% to 2.4%. Although the Fund will also lift its forecasts for world economic growth, the UK upgrade is significantly stronger.
It is the latest boost to the fortunes of the Chancellor, coming barely 24 hours after the Ernst & Young ITEM Club also increased its projection for UK economic growth this year.
Although the Fund's forecast for growth this year will be shy of the 2.7% predicted by the ITEM Club, the scale of the upgrade underlines how quickly sentiment about Britain's economy has turned in recent months.
The updated forecasts may also be construed as a reputational blow for the Fund itself, whose chief economist warned less than a year ago that the economic policies being carried out by George Osborne amounted to "playing with fire".
Since then, the Fund has already increased its growth projections for Britain once, last October, before this week's anticipated upgrade.
The news comes amid growing optimism about the speed of the UK recovery. In spite of concerns about retailers' fortunes over Christmas, retail sales grew in December at the fastest annual rate in almost a decade.

The comrades will be on ignore mode for this news. They are still with Red Ed who stated he would follow Hollndes Socialist policies to the letter.
They still haven't realised France is destined to be overtaken by the UK as our GDP will outstrip theirs in about 3 years.
Oh yes France is in real trouble and yet the gormless comrades on here want us to emulate them.
Truly they are priceless.

Have you noticed how the comrades avoid these threads like the plague. They simply have no answers they are still peddling their view that Plan B was better.
You can all tell a lefty but you can't tell them much.

Why are you so nasty? Why do you start every post you make here as a hate-filled tirade? Is that fun for you; do you get some sort of bitter enjoyment out of it? Please answer in detail.

It's not very fucking funny to me or to other liberals here to constantly be called stupid. Did that ever occur to you? It's really, really wearing.
Re: IMF To Change Growth Forecast For UK
He's not having a laugh, he's like it all the time. I've seen a few bitter and twisted people on the net, but he could give most of them lessons.

I don't particularly enjoy having people come on the forum I started and call me a "gormless lefty comrade." But maybe I'm just weird that way -- hey, after all, I am a gormless comrade lefty!

I've seen a lot of this here lately, particularly today. Wind people up, get them angry and then laugh it off as a joke, or worse, start acting like they're in the wrong when they defend themselves. It's called trolling, actually. It makes this site very unenjoyable for me and for others who would prefer to converse with adults!

I can't blame him though when myself and a few others are harassed day in day out by others on here. To give it back with a bit of humour is probably the best way and avoids too much fighting.
It's all you can do when you're outnumbered.

If you're being harassed, bring it to me or one of the other admins. We can't see everything, especially with new posts coming up literally every few seconds at times.

Drinky hasn't got any humour in him. He's just plain nasty through and through.

Back to the thread. So growth has been upped, but it is based on nothing as so many economists have said and only the top are getting anything from it. Anyway, its only up because it was so far down.

Let's just say that it is good news then?
I'm guessing they will use the same measurements for all countries?
And ours comes out top? That's good isn't it?
Yeah, surely that's good!

Well, China is worrying because it's stalled on 7.7, so that rather puts it in perspective. And is nobody feels any benefit from it, because it is only benefiting a few, people are going to be more pissed off that it is growing but they are getting nothing.

Well I think it will benefit more than a few.
Let's hope so, right?
You do hope so don't you?

Growth forecasts on the back of a drop in living standards and a low wage economy is exactly what the Tories have been after all along.
That's what we need to compete with countries like India so next thing you know we'll have workers making footballs for the FA on peanuts and call centres returning to the UK with workers working a few hours there and a few hours here just to get by.
It's a con.

I see the French are having a great time are they????
I think not and they have much much worse to come because Hollande spent spent spent and taxed taxed taxed.
You may in denial but all the metrics are good for the Uk. All the metrics are bad for France.
QED dodos you have been consistently wrong and me right. That you cannot accept it is your problem you are incapable of learning a thing.

Re: IMF To Change Growth Forecast For UK
FFS France is in meltdown even the bloody Guardian states that their economy is in real difficulty.
If it would help I'll cut and paste some articles for you to read. Whether it will go in or not is a very different matter.
Osborne went for austerity and minor cutbacks in expenditure. Hollande went for spending at increased rates. Hollandes route is what you on the left have been advocating for this country, it hasn't worked, indeed the opposite is true. The recent volte face by Christine Lagrade at the IMF is another embarrassment for her as well.
I have learned; I have learned that you lefties are physically and mentally incapable of admitting you are wrong.

Re: IMF To Change Growth Forecast For UK
And? We are not France. The policies proposed are not the same as France, so totally irrelevant. Yes, Miliband thought Hollande had some ideas. But then Osborne thought Ireland had some good ideas and suggested we did what they did. And look what happened to them.
Remember what the IPPR warned: Recovery 'built on housing bubble and consumer debt'
Britain's rapid growth is built on a housing bubble, showing the economy remains "fundamentally flawed", IPPR warns
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/10539945/Recovery-built-on-housing-bubble-and-consumer-debt.html
The recovery is built on sand and will probably last until the artificial housing bubble bursts next year, just in time for the election.

You goon I have seen the video of Millibabble state unequivocally that Hollandes policies would have been his had he been PM. That is not in dispute except with pig headed folk like yourself who thinks we are a dumb as you are.
Hello!!! just saying something isn't true doesn't make it go away. There is far far too much eveidence speech after speech of Milliband and Balls extolling the virtues of Hollandes approach.
Really Sassy what are you on???? Do they give you drugs on benefits now.

Give me a link to the video, Drinky. Just that I can't trust a word that comes out of the mouth of a Tory cap doffer or forelock tugger.

And I have read the speech that Osborne made in Dublin saying what he would do with our economy if he was the Chancellor. That was shortly before they went bust and when he really was Chancellor he had to stump up £7.5 billion of our money to help bail them out.
I've got a copy if you would like to read it.
