Iain Duncan Smith faced calls yesterday to investigate the fatcat salary of Motability boss Mike Betts.

Tory MP Steve Barclay wrote to the Work and Pensions Secretary after the Mirror revealed Mr Betts got more than £840,000 in pay and perks last year.

Mr Barclay, who is on the Commons Public Accounts committee, said the package was “truly shocking”, and he signalled that his committee could launch an inquiry.

Motability Operations is a not-for-profit organisation providing cars and scooters for the disabled. Last year it was given £18.3million from government funds.

The 2012 accounts show Mr Betts is its highest-paid director, earning a basic salary of £487,525, plus perks which take his total package to £846,201.
