Three people also died in North Wales a couple of weeks ago.
Two were youngsters, 15 and 16....they were not impossibly stupid, they were just young kids who had come to Barmouth on an organised coach trip, possibly the first time they had ever had the opportunity to swim in the sea.

Accidents happen Syl,sometimes  they are just that, unavoidable  accidents.
The drownings this weekend were avoidable with a tiny bit of common sense. There had been repeatedly dire warnings of this huge storm for about 5 days. It arrived bang on time with the ferocity predicted. Normal people just wouldn't  go swimming or clambouring on rocks confronted with 60mph winds and 20'seas.
It was suicide and they clearly heeded no warnings. It's the very young kids I feel for - lead to their deaths by moronic parents

That's true unfortunately, the kids get put in danger often times by adults who either don't understand, or simply ignore the ferocity of the sea.
Last week the sea in Barmouth was like a mirror....the week before as I said, 2 young lads were washed away and found days later, sadly washed up along the coast next to a holiday park.

There should imo be more coast guards and land patrols out and about at the popular seaside areas, especially in places like N Wales and Cornwall where the sea can get very tempestuous very quickly.

Two Fascinating Facts about Drowning.

Fresh Water And Salt Water Drown You Differently
At first glance, it would appear that swimming in the ocean is far more dangerous than swimming in a lake. Crashing waves and riptides can easily sweep beachgoers to their doom. But shockingly enough, about 90 percent of drowning cases occur in freshwater. The reason involves a bit of chemistry. Fresh water is more similar in composition to our own blood than salt water. When it is inhaled into the lungs, it passes into the bloodstream through osmosis. When the blood is so radically diluted, cells burst, leading to organ failure. The entire process takes two to three minutes.Ocean water contains far more salt than human blood. When it is aspirated, the body attempts to regulate itself by transferring water into the lungs, thickening the blood. It takes considerably longer to kill a person, between 8 to 10 minutes, allowing a much greater chance of rescue.

Drowning Looks Different In Real Life Than In The Movies
In movies and television, a drowning scene is stereotypical—the victim will thrash about, desperately clinging to the last vestiges of life. However, real life is a lot different from Baywatch. When people find themselves on the cusp of drowning, they enter a state of preservation called the “Instinctive Drowning Response.” Voluntarily movement becomes impossible; the person tends to bob listlessly, head thrown back, mouth level with the water. The eyes may be glassy or altogether closed. The legs do not kick, and the arms are held laterally against the body. The body is held vertically. The Instinctive Drowning Response is so undramatic that people often succumb even with lifeguards and other swimmers around. Experts recommend keeping a close eye on swimmers, and if someone becomes still to question them and make sure they remain cognizant. A drowning person will not be able to answer, or even reach for rescue equipment, and they have precious few seconds before they submerge.

"Darwinism in action.."
And not a single genuine "accident" among those deaths..

Though, one point  HA  --  as one of the casualties was a 7-year-old boy, it's actually 3 idiots --  and one boy who followed his mother (?)

The biggest fuckwit has to be the windsurfer; (windsurfing in gale-force winds ?  What the..).        Rolling Eyes

A dear friend that now just drives the rescue boat for the Gulf Coast S&R based in Louisiana ...is always so put out when the self-inflectd STUPID HUMANS do not check weather forecasts prior to setting out on their days fishing/vacation trip ...and then expect their rescue team to place the entire squad in jeopardy to go find that boat of FUCK-WITS when the storm is still raging full force  Evil or Very Mad

Suffer those poor children to be born to such stupid parents ... Rolling Eyes
