Stephen Frink Takes Daughter Alexa Swimming With Crocodiles In Cuba
Incredible photos show the moment a wildlife photographer took his daughter swimming with crocodiles in Cuba.
Alexa Frink, 23, can be seen just inches from the reptile’s open jaw as she swam in Jardines De La Reina. Her 67-year-old father, Stephen Frink, took the pictures of her swimming next to the eight-foot-long reptile, who weighed about 200lbs.Frink said his daughter has been travelling with her Florida-based parents on dive assignments since she was three months old.

Frink said that he wanted to show the environment where a crocodile lives as their habitat is under threat from overdevelopment.
“So, it was to be about the environment and the creatures that live there. But, when the croc presented his teeth to us so prominently the photographic objective became showing the predatory efficiency of the crocodile,” he said.“The best way to do that was with a very wide angle lens from very near. Many of the shots were taken with the teeth within two inches of the dome of my camera.”The pair named the crocodile Nino. They got in the water to film him after he approached their boat.

Frink explained how taking pictures of a huge predator up close is never without its problems.“There was of course the uncertainty of behavior. We felt reasonably safe due to the relatively slow movements of the crocodile,” he said. “But, on occasion it moved very rapidly and purposefully.“I certainly have more experience with sharks than I do with crocodiles, so there was a bit of trial and error and learning involved in this shoot. “Plus, I would not interpolate the success and safety of this particular croc to others worldwide. “I know my friends in Australia would never get in the water with one of their ‘salties’. I think that prudent as well.”

lol a mere baby that could easily grasp onto her and drown her, so you have togive them credit for getting in the water where most would avoid like the plague with one swimming in.
Welcome back by the way

Wasn't there an article about some father helping his kid get over the fence into the 'RINO' enclosure so he could take photos of his young teen son image with the Ringo's closer to the child
Dublin zoo, is where I believe that took place ...stupid - just really stupid!

His daughter is 23, which would make it her choice
She is not a child and thus clearly choose to get into the water
They were both in the water as well

AAAAANNND ...what does her age have anything to do with the DANGER that the action represented? Gee, daddy ...I know you've done this your entire life but you are getting up there in years now and you'll have that camera stuck to your face, do you think it's such a grand idea for us to be on either side of this meat eater in his environment?Didge wrote:His daughter is 23, which would make it her choice4EVER2 wrote:EGAD ...what is wrong with people?

Everything, when they are out to help the area because habitat is under threat from overdevelopment..
So they are doing this to make the public aware.
They take the risks and you made a funny comment as if a 23 year old cannot think for herself as if her father was forcing her to do so, when she has been travelling with her Florida-based parents on dive assignments since she was three months old.
At then end of the day they understand the risks and its their choice.
This is not a zoo either..
So again considering you have no idea what she wants and have now decided what she should wants based on your views, is you attempting to control her.
wow

Oh, still trying to be Dr. Freud and your portable pyscho analytical sofa!So again considering you have no idea what she wants and have now decided what she should wants based on your views, is you attempting to control her.
You've gone so far outside the ball park with you F'd up Assumptions as to be in the shopping center down the street ...my POV is as it's always been; just another stupid human putting a child in harms way {whether directly or indirectly} ...you twist my POV around in your fantasy world your live in as if that isn't a REAL concern!
That's your main maladjustment, your basic problem that oozes out with your diatribes. Mine is the rational of the 'AUTHOR' discussing camera angle and the set of the crocodiles jaw line so he could get a better shot of the TEETH; guess you missed all that! LMAO Good Grief.

1) 23 is not a child but an adult.
2) So its not putting a child in harms ways, the adult daughter has choosen to go into their water themselves
3) So again you invent a lie as at no point have I stated about placing a child in harms way and you then further prove how simpleminded and infantile you are by continuing to make lies up about posters and add smiles to them, just to further prove your poor mental age by again derailing another thread.
4) You also seem to have poor eyesight as well I guess due to the size of the writing you produce, so I have made it smaller, just to further help you.
5) So no child was placed in harms way, two adults took the risk to film this magnificent reptile, in order to make he public aware of the danger to the area.
6) Try answering the points, as I will just continue to make you look a complete simpleton if you continue to post like a child, as that is the only evidence of a child here, that happens to be you.
Enjoy

G'day, Didge...
Freshwater crocodiles are smaller, often slower and less aggressive than the Saltwater variety ("Salties"..) -- the saltwater crocodile can be more than twice as long and weigh over a thousand pounds.. (The majority of crocodile attacks down here are by Salties..).
Also, where he says in the OP that it was moving slowly, maybe there's also the possibility that it had fed recently -- making it even less aggressive again..
Filming underwater, there could also be "foreshortening" and "parallax" effects -- making it seem that the crocodile was closer to his daughter than the fact ?

That is intertesting to know and I here the salt water crocs are some of the biggest. I understand Nile crocs can also grow massive, is this true?
Thanks

Wikipedia entry on Crocodiles has the Nile croc' as the 2nd biggest species, after Saltwater crocodiles :
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nile_crocodile
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crocodile
-- in the crocodile article, they also list a couple of species in the Americas..
