Panic in Nice as lorry hits crowd

Video showed people fleeing
Social media video showed people fleeing after the incident
A lorry has struck a crowd during Bastille Day celebrations in the southern French city of Nice, media reports and witnesses say.

The incident took place on the Promenade des Anglais during a firework display, the reports said.

One image on Twitter showed about a dozen people lying on the street, some being tended to.

The local prefecture has urged people in the area to remain indoors, calling the incident "an attack".

Some reports spoke of shots being exchanged between police and the occupants of the lorry but these have not been confirmed.

Social media video showed people running through the streets in panic following the incident.

A journalist with the Nice Matin newspaper reported from the scene that there was "a lot of blood and without doubt many injured".

An Agence France-Presse reporter said the incident took place as the firework display was ending, adding: "We saw people hit and bits of debris flying around."

Another image on Twitter showed a white lorry stopped in the middle of the promenade with damage to its front, and four police officers observing it while taking cover behind a palm tree.

Apparently the driver was shot immediately - how did they know it was deliberate in those few seconds of it driving into the crowd? It could've been someone who'd had a heart attack and lost control of the wheel.

Presently 77 dead, and about 55 wounded.

The truck wasn't a delivery van. It was an over-the-road 18-wheeler, only on was a fixed body kind of attachment. Apparently the French do not allow the tractor-trailer rigs we have in the US and Australia, according to the reporter.

The roadway was off limits to traffic because of the fireworks display. It was open to foo-traffic only. The truck drove around barriers. In the clip you see officers chasing after the truck, apparently assuming it was mistaken in where it was going. Then the truck sped up and started hitting people, weaving back and forth, trying to deliberately strike people.

The driver had an gun and was also shooting at people as he was driving through the crowd. At one point the truck became mired or stalled and the driver jumped down from the cab and started indiscriminately shooting people. French police, already shooting back by this time, cut him down.

After the driver was dead, police found hand-grenades, firearms and explosives in the cab of the truck.

Calais is a dumping point. If you google "migrants in Calais" you will see the chaos and public disturbance that happen there due to migrants coming over in lorries and boats.

Lots of the men seen by a guy I know who goes that's everyday, are young men. No women, no kids.

Lots of people know this is happening but the UK TV news never reports it.

I THINK you might find that those tractor-trailer rigs are allowed on the highways, but aren't allowed in municipal and built-up areas; (considering the amount of international cargo travelling across European and Russian highways..).

A FEW of those old cities and town areas around Europe and S.E. Asia that can't handle big rigs have warehousing and truck parking depots out and away from the built up areas, and immediate to their international motorways and highways; and then use the smaller and more manouvreable 'ridgid' delivery trucks and vans for domestic deliveries..

I know there are women and children, because we donate children's clothes and toys and sanitary pads etc to people who go there to volunteer. There is a make shift school there and an area for women and children who don't have male family with them. Here are some of those women and children that don't exist Eds:

The amateur footage shows a married Kurdish-Iranian couple, Eghbal and his pregnant wife Nages, standing on the roof of their home as police move in. They proceed to clamber on to the roof, where onlookers cry out in horror as police use their batons to knock down the two to the ground and arrest them.
Annie Gavrilescu, a volunteer at the migrant camp who filmed the incident, described what she saw: "The couple had been on the roof since before last night and that is one of the reasons why their home was one of the only ones to have been spared.
"But the police turned up this morning with 27 police vans, two water canons, and a mobile detention centre. They saw the home then and immediately went towards it and got on the roof. As you can see [from the video] they pretty much beat them down," she said.
"Egbah was trying to tell them 'we're a married family, she's pregnant, leave us in our home'. But they took them down anyway. There was not a dry eye in the house. Everyone was crying and shouting 'no'. Even the police couldn't look at us as they did this," added Gavrilescu.

The problem is very simple.
Its time we started to recognise that the problem is Islamism.
I see the other day Eddie posted about Syrian children, who would not be in this same position if we had intervened in Syria to oust a tyrant. Who since he has beeen allowed to retain power 500,000 have been killed, 1.9 million injured and 9 million dispolaced. The later of which has added to higher tension based off terrorism acts by islamist terrorists in euorpe. Where they have been allowed entry off he back of genuine refugeees.. The later of which western Governements do everything but speak the truthg of the problem itself coming from an ideology. Where again we have the capabilities to go in an wipe out this group ISIS within a matter of days, but hold some daft belief this will cause more terroriists and not the murderous acts of the terrorists thermselves will cause Muslims to stand up and call a hold jihad against them itself.

Its time that Muslims and and western leaders recognise the threat to both is from islamism and to stop pussyfooting around this or you will continue to see more Muslims and Non-Muslims alike continue to die

He is home grown and so led by islamism and a narative of hate, that the French people he lives with are seen as the enemy, the question is why would he place them as the enemy based on the fact 500,000 people have been killed by a civil war that has not seen air strikes until recently. Think about this, hundreds of thousands of Muslims die at the hands of ISIS and Assad and some recent air strikes is enough for him not to go to Syria and fight those who have caused all these deaths, but because the west is trying to help eradicate ISIS.
The problem then stems from how a natarive of hate around Islamisd is being allowed to spead and unheaded within the west and what will sadly happen next is that the Far Right in France will eventually gain power of which none of us want to happen.
Then what will happen to many innocent Muslims?
This is the effect of the continual denial by western leaders of the problem
