After Brexit, Texas secessionist group calls for ‘Texit’
In News by Stefan Sirucek / June 24, 2016
On Friday, one major piece of news dominated headlines worldwide: Britain has voted to leave the European Union in a controversial move known as the “Brexit.”
While it was met with queasiness and horror from many corners, news of the Brexit was cheered by American Trump supporters and other assorted Europhobics and isolationists. One group that appears to have been particularly inspired by the move is Texas secessionists, who saw it as something of a call to action in their push for a so-called “Texit.”
In response, on Friday Texas Nationalist Movement president Daniel Miller called on Texas governor Greg Abbott to allow a similar independence referendum for the Lone Star state.
According to Fox 4 Beaumont, Miller remarked:Miller called Texas independence “the only solution” to “the overreach of and abuse of Texas by the Federal Government.”“It is past time that the people of Texas had their say on our continued relationship with the Union and its sprawling Federal bureaucracy. The win for Brexit opens the door for Texit by establishing, concretely, that it is possible to have an adult conversation on independence and letting the people have the final say.”
The Texas Nationalist Movement claims to have some 260,000 supporters and believes they can force a vote.
Heck, go nuts.

GOOD GRIEF ...see what you 'BRITISH' have stirred up now; the wing nuts in Texas have come out into the mid-day heat {without their hats and sun screen} and their collective rants/gnashing of teeth/saber rattling can be heard clear up here in Kansas!

I for one feel decidedly uncomfortable that the Trump supporters are behind the Brexit voters.
After watching newsreels of Trump and his redneck followers, I don't see any similarity between them and the vast majority of Brits who wanted out.

And as 'ODD' as our marked differences have been about observations --- I can relate to those 3 million that have now had that 'voter remorse' and want a piece of Boris's flesh.
We've had some very unique votes that have sent the 'shock waves' rumbling out into the public forums during the aftermath of the voting count. The GWB vs Gore presidential election - Prop. #8 out in California. That Prop#8 was caused quite the uproar in the manner that the wording was used for if you wanted to vote 'for it' or you wanted to vote 'against it' --- it all was uniquely phrased to confuse and bewilder and people that thought they were voting to establish the Prop#8 had in fact ended up voting against it! Masses amounts of Californian's were PISSED. And many wanted a 'DO-OVER VOTE' as well.
But from my arm chair - and the message that "Cheeto Jesus" is screaming = same message that has been spewed from many a local elected campaign box in any GOP for the past 7+ years --- those Republicans just didn't have so many FREE MEDIA air time as 'Cheeto Jesus' has been allowed or the international coverage either.

There's nothing wrong with the public being able to vote for things.
Why is everyone saying that referendums are wrong?

I had to refresh my ole' memory about that 'Lone Star' issue, Nicko ...
This is what I found, pretty interesting ...and I'd forgotten the designer of the 'lone star flag' >nicko wrote:Well they do call themselves the "lone" star state don't they?
Way back when, Texas was a province of Mexico. The land that would one day become the current state of Texas encompassed two different areas and was called Coahuila y Tejas. It's thought that the original flag for this land bore two gold stars in the middle of the red, green and white stripes of the Mexican flag.
From 1835 to 1836, Texas fought to gain independence from Mexico, and the resulting victory meant a new flag for the newly independent Republic of Texas — the lone star, clearly labeled, "Texas" made its first appearance. This flag, and subsequent variations of it, all featured a lone star, representing defiance, pride and — most importantly — independence.
Texas joined the Union on December 29, 1845, as the 28th state. Although no longer citizens of a freestanding Republic, Texans still pride themselves on their rugged individualism and independent spirit.
On January 4, 1889 a Senate committee paid $10 to Austin artist Peter Krag to create a color drawing of a new red, white and blue flag for Texas — its lone star, of course, and Krag's drawing became the prototype of the same flag that still represents Texas today.

Have you ever heard of those 'Mexican Jumping Beans'
Well, just envision a huge section of humanity - cloistered in that 'Lone Star State' that suffers from that nervous affliction.
They're just wired different then regular folks are ...don't allow them to get to close to your outside 'Bug Zapper' - that magic blue light does tend to hypnotize them someth'n awful and they'll get burnt!

not so different from calling all leave supporters wacist. There are likely to be rather more than 17million trump supporters. they cant all be rednecks.Syl wrote:I for one feel decidedly uncomfortable that the Trump supporters are behind the Brexit voters.

Not really, the leave supporters were from every walk of life and every political persuasion.
I take your point though that not ALL his supporters are red necks.

lets hope you're right ben
And I have it on good Authority that there is no such get out clause (even for Texas) in the US constitution.

Not at all, the OP was reporting that the usual suspects are once again hollering for secession. It wasn't saying most Texans agree.
You can find a similar percentage of residents of every single U.S. state (on average) who want to secede.
It's either stupidity or insanity, but it affects more of our brethren than we want to admit.

There is not, Texans can't just vote on whether to leave the U.S. Even Rick Perry admitted that (eventually), for crying out loud.
Just to throw this in, Texans are big on flying flags. I always joke that the reason you see the Lone Star everywhere you go here is because Texans have great difficulty remembering where we are at any given moment, so the flag is a handy reminder ... but you usually see the U.S. flag flying OVER the Lone Star.
Re: After Brexit, Texas secessionist group calls for ‘Texit’
What can I say? Some states just stick in the public imagination more than others.
We know we're unique and we like to fly the flag, but that doesn't mean most of us want to secede.

Is that because those good ol' Texan cowboys can't count past four without taking their socks off first ????

But, at first it is constrictive.

Love your jokes and images ...just wish you would learn how to size those huge images to within the frame work of the posted space.veya_victaous wrote:
There are 2 options for doing that;
1.) when using the image icon - insert the http:// code and then insert the width = 550 and the height = 550
2.) click on your image and you'll see those little pixel boxes around the outer edge - find the a corner one and drag it towards the center and you'll see your image resized to fit within the frame of the posted area
SHAZAMMMMM ...works every time.
But that was quite an amusing image...TY for sharing
