Lili Ilse Elvenes, better known as Lili Elbe, was a Danish transgender woman and one of the first identifiable recipients of sex reassignment surgery. Elbe was born Einar Magnus Andreas Wegener and was a successful painter under that name.

I watched the film The Danish Girl last night. The true story of Lilli Elbe, set in beautiful 1920's Copenhagen , one of the first transgenders to be a recipient of the sex-changing op.

What a film! What a love story between a woman trapped in a mans body and the wife he absolutely adored.

I really recommend it. It gets right into the soul of them both and is a real eye-opener.

They were both accomplished painters and the wife Gerda, became famous for her paintings of Lilli.

She's was pretty good! Google her.
