Woman who taped dog's mouth shut found guilty of animal cruelty
Katharine Lemansky was handed a suspended 60-day jail sentence - but will get to keep the pet

A woman who taped her dog's mouth shut and uploaded a photo of it to Facebook has been found guilty of animal cruelty.
Katharine Lemansky was handed a 60-day jail sentence, suspended for one year, but will be allowed to keep the animal after police found it was otherwise well-cared-for.
Lemansky, also known as Katie Brown, sparked outrage with the social media post, which was shared hundreds of thousands of times late last year.
It was captioned: "This is what happens when you don’t shut up!!!"
Lemansky insisted the post was a joke, and even defended it in a follow-up on Facebook saying: "Don't panic everyone it was only for a minute but hasn't barked since… POINT MADE!!!"
She told the court in Wake County, North Carolina, the duct tape had only been on the dog for 15-20 seconds.

Police said Lemansky's dogs were otherwise well-cared-for (Facebook/Katie Brown)
Lemansky will be subject to regular visits from a probation officer (Facebook/Katie Brown)
Police who attended the home not long after the incident said the pet, a chocolate lab-mix named Brown, showed no lasting signs of physical harm.
Nonetheless, district judge Jackie Brewer said: "This is one of those cases where a picture's worth a thousand words."
Police captain Randall Rhyne said taping Brown's muzzle shut was "a terrible decision on Ms Lemansky's part".
He added: "At the same time, it's important to also note that our animal control officers who physically examined both Brown and her littermate found the dogs to be very well cared for, which is why we did not and could not remove them from the owner."

Who on earth would think that right to do? If she has the dog back she should at least be monitored.

I remember seeing this and I had a look at her FB page when it happened. Lots of her friends were really having a go at her about it.
It was cruel but if the police were happy her dogs were ok then I don't see that any further action needs to be taken.

Sorry, but in my view nobody who loved their dog would do that under any circumstances. Apart from anything else, she taped over it's jowls and could have really hurt it getting it off. It would have made the dog totally panicked.

THAT f'ing **** should be banned from keeping any animals, for life...

Yes, I agree. I'm surprised they didn't take the dog away.

It's North Carolina, eds. The police are the criminals in that state.

Her FB group did indeed give her many verbal lashings for this; her self-inflicted bravado for evening posting the selfie and continued bragging about her method of training her dog to 'NOT BARK'; SMH What a F'n MORON!
One method of abuse does not equate 'that this works for stopping a barking dog' and her feeble mental excuses justify her being told 'you NO longer are allowed license for pets' and leaving the decision up to non-qualified police officers {not trained in HUMANE/Animal Control Issues} is just equally lame and shouldn't be allowed. PERIOD.
That women is a menace and should have that duck tape wrapped around her head and then yanked off - a couple of times to make the POINT!
YOU JUST DO NOT DO THAT to any animal!
Hopefully her name and her photo is now on the national 'animal abuse register' and she won't be allowed near any shelter or reputable breeder!

It is inappropriate to tape a dogz gob together IMHO unless it was a total savage beast.
I could name a foruma or two whose gob and legz I would tape together. lol lol lol
It's taken me some time to learn all of the 'TAG TEAM/HYENA PACK' players ...but I'm getting there: so now that I'm pretty well versed, if you want to make a real snarky remark about another member - put it under Miffs/Muffler's avatar name
for example: Mufflers says that ________________
See, little Eddie doesn't even respond to any reports - she'll ignore all of those ass-swipe attacks that her fair haired shit stirrer slams members with!
So just in case you need to poke or jab me a good one --- feel free to use ole' queen of the shit pot = Muffler/Miff's avatar and you'll be good as gold!
