‘Alarming’ Rise In Islamophobia Risks Dissuading Muslim Politicians, Malia Bouattia Says

An “alarming” increase in Islamophobic abuse on university campuses threatens to dissuade a generation of Muslim politicians, the incoming president of the National Union of Students (NUS) has said. Malia Bouattia told The Huffington Post UK that Muslims elected democratically to represent students were seen as some how “illegitimate”. She warned: “We now face the risk of losing Muslim voices from student politics unless action is taken.”

Bouattia said: “We are currently witnessing an alarming rise of Islamophobia and an increase in hate crime on campuses, including one incident where a woman had her niqab pulled off by two men at King’s College London. “Islamic societies are starting to feel unable to get involved politically because Prevent has legitimised the stigmatisation of Muslims. “There have also been cases of Muslim students being elected as sabbatical officers in students’ unions, then being painted as unrepresentative and illegitimate. “We now face the risk of losing Muslim voices from student politics unless action is taken to stamp out racism on campus.
“Every student should have the chance to participate in all areas of student life without being subjected to abuse.”

Campaigners say the problem with anti-Muslim abuse appears to have worsened with campaigns for student unions to cut ties with the NUS provoking a swathe of reported incidents. Yusuf Hassan, Vice-president student affairs, Federation of Student Islamic Societies (FOSIS), told HuffPost UK: “Negative campaigning in these referendums has been racist and Islamophobic.”

The last part is a crock of shit. Students are cutting ties, over the fact of antisemitism  within the NUS to the very top with its new leader. Who again called for a motion not to condemn ISIS. The same group who called a motion against Holocasut memorial, claiming lies stating thy do not include other genocides, of which they blatantly do. Unbelieveable, the old victim Muslim card is played, when they have been exposed for antisemitism, which then actually damages the real victims of Anti-Muslim hatred. Yet again we are seeing the regressive left at work lying
