EgyptAir Crash Terrorist Attack
Just makes your heart sink.
It's not certain yet if there was a mechanical failure. Plane disappeared off radar almost at its destination, Cairo. Flight was coming from Paris. 66 on Board.

There's no info that there was any communication from the pilot, which suggests a sudden catastrophic event of some kind.

Not much. The Greek Merchant Navy reported seeing a "flame in the sky", and it's presumed that the plane is at the bottom of the sea. They're out searching for it.

It simply dropped off the radar. No warnings. No distress call.

Yes. I suppose the fact that the plane came from Paris has made people jump to the conclusion that it's a terrorist attack - that and the sudden nature of the disappearance. There are reports that the plane swerved a lot before it disappeared, so that's quite suggestive too.

Debris has been found in the search for the EgyptAir plane that crashed into the Mediterranean Sea with 66 people on board after the jet went into a sudden spin and plunged 22,000ft before vanishing off the radar. Flight MS804 came down near the Greek island of Karpathos, ten miles into Egyptian airspace at around 00.30am GMT, without making a distress call.
Greek defence minister Panos Kammenos said the Airbus A320 made 'sudden swerves' in mid-air, lurching 90 degrees to the left then 360 degrees to the right as it fell out of the sky.
He said the plane dropped from 37,000 feet to 15,000ft before the signal was lost at around 10,000 feet. The revelation came after a former air accident chief said all the evidence was pointed to the plane being targeted in a terrorist attack.

Re: EgyptAir Crash Terrorist Attack
Indications are beginning to point away from a terrorist attack. No group has claimed credit, which would be unusual if it was ISIS or al Qaeda.
There's something else that's fishy about it. If you are al Qaeda or ISIS, why target an airplane that is carrying some 50 Sunnis? Why would you want to alienate your own religious base--your own people? They could have targeted Iran in some way, or western targets with huge 747s flying out of de Gaulle airport everyday.
And another thing: this aircraft was hardly loaded (only 66 passengers out of a possible 247), and while that does not minimize the loss, there could be much more rewarding targets. Why target a Sunni loaded aircraft, with very few passengers on board?
Reports now say there was smoke detected in the bathroom and electronics bay of the aircraft...suggesting fire.

Re: EgyptAir Crash Terrorist Attack
There are reports emerging that the pilot did speak to air traffic control before the plane crashed, but the reports differ slightly. There's talk that there was smoke in the front of the plane and that the pilot was going to make an emergency landing of some kind. Another report suggests that there was an explosion.

EgyptAir Flight MS804 Made ‘Three Emergency Landings’ In 24 Hours Before Crashing Into The Mediterranean Sea
The missing EgyptAir Airbus that crashed into the Mediterranean Sea two weeks ago was forced to turn around and make an emergency landing at least three times in the 24 hours before it disappeared, according to reports.
French media claim the aircraft made six rotations between Asmara, in Eritrea, Cairo, Tunis and Paris, before it suddenly disappeared from radar screens on May 19.
According to France 3, in its different rotations between 18-19 May, ACARS -Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System - messages sent to the ground signalled anomalies on board shortly after takeoff from three airports.
Airlive said the exact nature of the calls was unknown, but each alert led to “a technical audit on the ground”. Despite this, the plane was repeatedly allowed to take off again and continue on its journey.
The claims were put to former aviation security official Jean-Paul Troadec, who Euronews quoted as saying: “These new findings are an important element for the investigators.
“We cannot presume to know know exactly what happened on board but it’s not entirely normal to turn around several times after a technical incident without finding anything.”
The missing Airbus 320 was flying from Paris to Cairo when it disappeared over the Mediterranean with 66 people on board, triggering a flurry of speculation as to the cause, including suggestions it was brought down by terrorists.

Not that those foreign countries have had the fuel cost savings that our country has seen ...but as Ben stated - cutting cost and the net affect is maintenance suffers and that is just something that will cost lives.by sassy on Thu Jun 02, 2016 2:31 pm

Luggage can pile up - luggage may get lost - people may have to wait in long lines and be more inconvenienced but putting humans into the air and skipping on maintaining that essential equipment = WHY I DO NOT FLY!

Re: EgyptAir Crash Terrorist Attack
All that article is saying is that one or more warning sensors were triggered on undisclosed system/s... and then after plane landed the systems were checked and no problems identified/found...
Maybe parts were even replaced, just in case, and sensor/s still went off triggering warning alerts...
Without the disclosure of what warnings on what systems etc... and what checks were done/parts replaced etc...it is impossible to say what relevance any of this may have...

Apologies if this has been spoken about
'Debris' Found In Sea Not From Missing Jet
Wreckage found near the Mediterranean island of Karpathos is not from missing EgyptAir Flight MS804, the airline says.
EgyptAir has confirmed the wreckage of missing Flight MS804 has not been found, just hours after saying debris discovered in the Mediterranean belonged to the aircraft.
An airline official told CNN: "We stand corrected."
It comes after multiple reports in Greece and Egypt claimed to have discovered debris including floating objects and life vests.

What about the body parts that were found...?
Is it normal for loads of body parts to be found floating about in the water in the area where a plane went down... but not to be from the missing plane!?

EgyptAir crash: Black box cockpit voice recorder from flight MS804 'found in Mediterranean Sea'
Ministry of Civil Aviation says the box was found 13,000 ft deep into the ocean with memory storage intact
The black box containing the cockpit voice recorder from the crashed EgyptAir flight has been found in the Mediterranean, investigators in Egypt say.
The Egyptian investigation committee said a specialist vessel owned by Mauritius-based Deep Ocean Search made the discovery, which is now being transferred to the coastal city of Alexandria where the public prosecution and investigators will receive it
Egypt's Ministry of Civil Aviation said the box, one of two on the plane, was found 13,000 ft deep into the ocean, partly broken but with its memory storage intact.
An investigative team has been dispatched.
The wreckage of the EgyptAir flight was discovered yesterday.

flight data recirder now found....
"The two flight data recorders from the EgyptAir jet that crashed into the Mediterranean have now been recovered, investigators say.
A team searching the area where the passenger plane is believed to have come down said on Friday that the second recorder was "retrieved in several pieces".
But it managed to "successfully retrieve" the memory unit which investigators said was the "most important" component.
The device records information about the speed, altitude and direction of the plane.
The discovery comes a day after the aircraft's cockpit voice recorder was spotted and recovered."
