Headteacher Tom Sherrington says the Prevent strategy is making it harder challenge elements of the Muslim faith.
The Government’s counter-terrorism strategy has been blamed for making teachers “hypersensitive” when it comes to challenges elements of the Muslim faith and teaching evolution. London headteacher Tom Sherrington said schools could shy away from teaching Charles Darwin’s seminal scientific theory to avoid “provoking a reaction” from their pupils with creationist views.  He said the Prevent programme has “added to the sense that your treat Muslims as different” and the strategy “makes any engagement directly questioning the faith position of Muslim students more challenging”.

That shows how dishonest people are, as the prevent strategy tackles all extremism, not just Islamic extremism. But again the most absurd reason is to not teach evolution because of sensitivities. When are we go to start sacking these idiots for incompetence? If it provokes a reaction from Muslims, then its naff all to do with prevent but the faith of islam and religious leaders, that it does not allow for any critical thinking. Or where countless narratives are all over the internet on this. Seriously, Prevent has nothing to do with this problem, as its found also in the US with Evangelical Literal Christians.

I wonder if the problem is respect for traditions
The UK respects it's traditions too much and therefore maybe it respects others traditions too much as well.
As Aussie don't respect our own traditions (since we are too young to have real ones) we don't really respect those other traditions either if they are wrong, at least not when it comes to education.
If you answer in creationist terms you will be marked incorrect, so even if a religious school teaches it they also have to teach evolution and tell the students that they have to answer in evolution terms to get marked correct in the state exams (the only ones that really count)

Let's be honest here - the Prevent programme is aimed primarily at Muslims. I think it's a waste of time trying to "persuade" people not to go and join and ISIS or to not plot to blow up people in the UK. The best thing is to tell them that if they leave the country to join ISIS, they'll be arrested if they return, and that if they're ever caught with terrorist material, they'll go down for a very long time. Treating such people as "victims" is just stupid.

Its a driving factor for this to be done, but no its not aimed primarily at Muslims

This would be my personal strategy against those specific to Islamic extremism.

1) Those above 18 that want to join ISIS should be allowed to leave, where they sign away their rights to a British nationality.
They already burn their passports in a show of defiance anyway. So what is the pointy in clogging up our jails with people who do not want to live here anymore?

2) Those killed in the act of terrorism, shall receive no religious funeral rights and have their bodies cremated without service and and the remains sent onto their relatives. I fail to see why we should respect the religious rights of terrorists in death, when its claimed for example by Muslims that their acts go against Islam, so why then should they be afforded any Islamic rights. Also this would act as a deterrent.

3) Expand the child abuse laws, where preaching hate and incitement to under 18's to commit acts of terror becomes a criminal act through child abuse.

4) Make all schools secular and thus allow for a balance school system that teaches equality and a fairness on religion as a subject. Preventing then a bias or religious beliefs holding sway in teaching and placements to schools.

Number 2 is not likely to succeed. The relatives will simply arrange the funeral once they receive the remains. It might not be ideal to them, but you can't stop them having a religious funeral.

Again why should a terrorist in death have any rights to a subjective concept called a funeral?
Also again if they are going to distance terrorism from Islam, why would you then have a Islamic funeral for the dead terrorist?

Plenty of Muslims might have an Islamic funeral for a dead terrorist - if they shared the views of that terrorist.
