Muslim Boy's schoolwork Leads To Lancashire Police Investigation
A 10-year-old Muslim boy who misspelled a word during an English lesson, writing that he lived in a "terrorist house", has been interviewed by police. The Lancashire primary school pupil meant to write that he lived in a "terraced house".
The boy was reported to the police, in accordance with the 2015 Counter Terrorism and Security Act, which places a higher emphasis on teachers to tell the authorities of any suspected extremist behaviour. The boy was interviewed by Lancashire Police the following day and the family's laptop was examined. The child's family said they want the school and police to apologise following December's incident. The boy's cousin, who is not being named in order to protect the child's identity, told the BBC that she originally believed it was a "joke". She said: "You can imagine it happening to a 30-year-old man, but not to a young child. "If the teacher had any concerns it should have been about his spelling. They shouldn't be putting a child through this. "He's now scared of writing, using his imagination."
Lancashire Police said in a statement: "This was reported to the police but was dealt with by a joint visit by a PC from the division and social services, not by anyone from Prevent.

Now the actual title from the Huffington post reads:
Muslim Boy's 'Terrorist House' Spelling Error Leads To Lancashire Police Investigation
I have changed this for a reason, so lets see if anyone can figure out why?
Any takers?

The spelling was correct as he did write that he lived in a terrorist house with his uncle.
All that part is true, but that was not what really set off the chain of events to involve the Police

I mean a spelling error in that he allegedly meant to write "terraced".
I can't get the link to work btw.

You think that he deliberately wrote "terrorist" to see what would happen?

His spelling was perfect throughout Rags.
He was meant to be creative and actually lives with his parents not his uncle, but given the fact creative writing can be based off real life events and you see him write "I hate it when my uncle beats me" would also ring the alrms bells in many teachers if there was any truth to that. That is why the school did the right thing and called social services and for once social services also did the right thing to get the help of the Police to investigate this. The matter has been cleared up, but given the position of the teacher and of past events like Rochdale, I am glad to see people would at least have this investigated.
Anyway here is too links on the matter

What is disgusting is how the story has been twisted as if to claim Muslims are being picked on by Prevent who were not even involved in this investigation. Both the Huffington post and the BBC were being dishonest, where at least the BBc has amended its article but the Huffington has not

Bullshit Spreads Through The Press Like Wildfire Through Brush
Lucy Lips, January 21st 2016, 10:15 amHeard the one about the kid in Lancashire whose family received a visit from the police, carrying out their duties under Prevent, as the result of a simple spelling mistake? The boy had written that he lived in a “terrorist house”, when he meant to write “terraced house”.
The story was reported throughout the world.
The Muslim Council of Britain, who may have been the organisation pushing the story of this outrage in the first place, was quoted widely in the press. The finger was pointed firmly in the direction of the Government, and the Prevent policy:
This morning we discover, as we knew that we would, that the story was bollocks. Here’s really what happened.“Miqdaad Versi, assistant secretary-general of the Muslim Council of Britain, said he was aware of dozens of similar cases.
“There are huge concerns that individuals going about their daily life are being seen through the lens of security and are being seen as potential terrorists rather than students.
“This is a natural consequence of the extension of the ‘Prevent Duty’ to schools,” he said in reference to the government’s anti-terrorism strategy”
The boy had produced a piece of schoolwork, in which he wrote “I hate it when my uncle beats me”. The piece was, apparently, a series of questions and answers about an imaginary character called “Cheeky Charlie”.
Because the boy had written about being beaten, the school referred the matter to the social workers, who attended the house to investigate with the local beat officer. Social services were satisfied that the boy wasn’t in danger, and no further action was taken.
Can you imagine the outcry that would have followed the death or serious injury of a child, who had written about being beaten at home, if no visit had been made? The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Lancashire, Clive Grunshaw, issued a damning statement on the way the story had been reported and said he had “written to the BBC”, which laterupdated its original article online.
“A report wrongly claimed a family was interrogated as potential terrorists due to a spelling error in a boy’s homework,” he said.
“The facts are that a young person disclosed a worrying issue in his school work – not just that he lived in a “terrorist house” – and this was reported through the appropriate channels and subsequently a visit was undertaken by a neighbourhood police officer and a social worker.”
He added: “In the event there was no further action needed, but if the school and police had not acted then they would have been failing in their duty to respond to concerns.”
Mr Grunshaw later tweeted that the BBC had “set the record straight”.
Bullshit spreads like wildfire.
