The Jewish Press:

A group of nationalist activists has succeeded in infiltrating radical leftist groups, and exposed how extreme leftist activist Ezra Nawi passes information on Palestinian Arabs interested in selling land to Jews and has them executed by the Palestinian Authority (PA).

The PA has long outlawed the sale of land to Jews in Judea and Samaria, and has made no secret of its position of executing Arab sellers. Nawi admitted he knew that by passing the Arabs' names to the PA he was handing them a death sentence.

The expose regarding Nawi's role in it all was revealed by Channel 2 on Thursday.

In recent months intrepid right-wing activists managed to have planted agents infiltrate the radical leftist circles and follow Nawi's activities on the ground, without him being aware. One of the agents was even able to get very close to Nawi.

The planted agent managed to record Nawi giving testimony as to how he takes the names of Palestinians who want to sell land to Jews and hands them over to the PA Security Forces, fully aware of the bitter fate in store for them.
One of the activists taped Nawi’s bragging about how he turns in to the Palestinian security forces Arabs who plan to sell land to Jews, with full awareness of their fate after they are caught. “I hand them directly to the Palestinian security service,” Nawi boasts on the tape.

When asked what happens once Palestinian police lays its hands on the sellers, Nawi says, “It catches them, kills them.” He then added with a vicious smile, “First Zubur, then Gazanga.” Zubur is an Arabic word used in Hebrew to describe hazing—humiliation and physical torment. The Gazanga part is not a known word, but implies, in the context of the tape, the demise of the victim.

The leftist "human rights" organization B'Tselem is not too upset at the idea of an Israeli handing over Arabs to be tortured and executed. Instead, it attacked the report on their Hebrew Facebook page, even justifying the actions of the informers, saying that "this is the only legitimate channel for Palestinians" to protect their land from being sold to Jews "given the fact that the Israeli authorities refrain from protecting the Palestinian landowners in the takeover by settlers on their land." B'Tselem adds "Of course, B'Tselem is completely against torture and executions before or after legal proceedings, under any circumstances, whether it is done in the cellars of the Shabak or the Palestinian Authority." Yet it is more upset over legitimate, legal sales of land to Jews than it is over the fate for those who facilitate those sales.

Police open criminal investigation of far-left Israeli activist

The Israel Police have opened a criminal investigation into a far-left activist who was shown on an investigative journalism TV program last week boasting about how he helps Palestinian security forces find Palestinians who sell land to Jews.
In the hidden camera footage aired by Channel 2’s “Uvda” on Thursday night, Ezra Nawi can be seen boasting about how the Palestinian land owners are tortured and later killed after taken into custody by the Palestinian Authority’s Preventative Security Service.
“Straight away I give their pictures and phone numbers to the Preventive Security Force,” Nawi is heard saying in reference to the Palestinian Authority’s counterintelligence arm. “The Palestinian Authority catches them and kills them. But before it kills them, they get beat up a lot.”
The footage was part of a segment on Uvda about a group of Israelis who posed as far-left activists in order to infiltrate Israeli human rights NGOs working in the West Bank.

Guardian once praised Israeli ‘activist’ who helps kill Palestinians selling land to Jews

In 2009, the Guardian published an official editorial titled ‘In Praise of Ezra Nawi’.
Nawi is a Jewish Israeli ‘human rights activist’ with the group Ta’ayush, a “grassroots movement of Arabs and Jews working to break down the walls of racism and segregation”.
Prior to the editorial, the Guardian had published an op-ed by contributor Neve Gordon which was even effusive in its praise of the “pro-democracy, human rights activist”.
Fast forward to 2016.
Uvda, a respected news magazine on Israel’s Channel 2, just revealed that two Israeli “human rights activists” – including Ezra Nawi – bragged, in an exchange caught on film – that they “entrapped” Palestinians interested in selling land to Jews and subsequently turned them in to the Palestinian Authority.
Remarkably, they turned these Palestinians in even though they acknowledged – in the video secretly recorded by another NGO – that they likely faced torture or murder by the Palestinian secret police.

Haaretz outs IDF hero who infiltrated B'tselem, Ta'ayush

The Haaretz newspaper has exposed the alleged identity of the young man who infiltrated leftist groups as part of an investigative report that was aired on Channel 2 last week.
The man, who was planted in the leftist groups by a group called Ad Kan, recorded the most damning documentary materials aired on the show, by use of a hidden camera. His identity was kept secret on the show, and the IDF, too, refrained from making it public when he was awarded the Chief of Staff's citation for his courage in Operation Protective Edge.
According to the Channel 2 report, the man – who was referred to by the pseudonym "Arik," was the one who asked the IDF to keep his name secret, in order to make it possible for him to continue to infiltrate the leftist groups.
The investigative report has severely damaged the groups' image as being concerned with "human rights," by exposing that senior members of B'tselem and Ta'ayush have been informing on Arabs in Judea and Samaria who wish to sell land to Jews, in the knowledge that this leads to their arrest and torture by the Palestinian Authority (PA), which issues death sentences to people who sell land to Jews.

Famed leftist writers unruffled by B'tselem exposé

Famed leftist writer AB Yehoshua, who is a member of the public council of B'tselem, sees nothing wrong with the fact that senior activists in B'tselem and Taayoush have been informing on Arabs who tried to sell land to Jews and handing them over to the Palestinian Authority security mechanism, where they can expect to be tortured and sentenced to death.
Nationalist-conservative website Mida contacted several members of the organization's public council following the exposé broadcast last week on a Channel 2 in the hope of eliciting some kind of condemnation, following the revelations. However, none was forthcoming.
AB Yeshoshua, who has received the Israel Prize for Hebrew literature and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, among other awards, instead supported the organization for informing on the would-be land sellers.
"Selling of land needs to be clear and to be written down in the land registry," he said. "You cannot hide the sale of land by one person to another. The [Palestinian] Authority's mechanisms and the mechanisms of a formal body that we recognize and about whose existence we are glad. We want transparency. Everything that is done here – I want transparency. Including in the Palestinian Authority. Including land sales – everything must be transparent."

When human rights no longer matter to NGO’:

A few days ago, an Israeli investigative TV show (UVDA – ‘fact’) ran an expose that involved an Israeli infiltrating Ta’ayush, a NGO that promotes itself as ‘a grassroots movement of Arabs and Jews working to break down the walls of racism and segregation.’ The Israeli also encountered Nasser Nawajah, a member of B’tselem. These two NGO’s are cited as leading ‘human rights organisations’ whose self-stated purpose is highlighting alleged human rights abuse. Very few, if any, of the organised tours that set out to sell ‘the brutal Israel’ narrative do not involve engaging one or both of these movements.

The operation itself was simple, and involved riding with Ezra Nawi, an Israeli Jew and well known ‘peace activist’ from Ta’ayush, as he went about his daily business. The Israeli, using the pseudonym ‘Arik’, went on to capture on camera that these activists, senior members of B’tselem and Ta’ayush, have been informing on Arabs who wish to sell land to Jews. Nawi was recorded boasting that the Palestinian security forces would torture and execute those Palestinian land brokers and ‘take care’ of the Palestinian families willing to sell their land.

In itself, the action only highlighted what is already obvious, that some, if not many of the volunteers of the NGO’s operating in this area, are not ‘peace activists’ at all, but rather hate driven ideologues, who have taken sides in a difficult and complex situation. Their interference, rather than assisting, means many of these NGO’s have become an intractable and indivisible part of the conflict itself, perpetuating myths, spreading disinformation, feeding the anger and in turn, leading to more, rather than less violence.

The case seems pretty clear cut. An activist from Ta’ayush was approached by a Palestinian in the hope he will find Jewish buyers for a land owner that wanted to sell. Rather than follow through, Ezra Nawi contacts Nasser Nawajah, a friend in B’tselem to discuss what would be needed to hand this man over to the Palestinian security services. There are not many ways of looking at this, it is like someone from Amnesty International conspiring to trap an individual and then hand him over to the Chinese authorities, knowing what the Chinese do to those that oppose them. Any right minded individual would instantly condemn the action and no true peace activist would engage in them or protect those that do. But that is not what is happening with this latest event at all.
As soon as the sh0w was broadcast, the backlash started. On the programme itself, Illana Dayan, the shows anchor, had invited Gideon Levy, a frequent commentator on human rights to respond, and rather surprisingly, Levy’s main concern seemed to be that the show had been broadcast at all. Levy has since written an article in Haaretz saying that the show ‘should be ashamed of the report it aired which depicted human rights activists as dangerous, while ignoring the occupation.’ Rather incredibly, Levy begins to suggest the entire piece is taken out of context and ending in rather dramatic and ironic fashion, he suggests that by highlighting these actions to the world, the show has done a disservice. Here is Gideon Levy publicly claiming that some people assisting human rights abuses should not be put on TV.

And Gideon Levy is far from alone. 972 Magazine, an online outlet that spends its entire existence knocking Israel and talking up human rights, suddenly becomes blind to actions that clearly contravene the UN’S Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Today (10/1) they ran a piece by Haggai Matar, attacking those who publicised the actions of the activists. Suddenly, when analysing the words of a man who seemed to be rejoicing at the violent fate that would befall the land seller, there is a ‘but’ and an ‘however’. Incredibly, the criticism is reserved for the source of the recording, rather than the men who conspired to perhaps have someone killed. It seems that for these left wing ‘moralist thinkers’ that when it comes to human rights, some people’s rights are more important than others.

These are not the only two examples. Ever since the broadcast, the show has been attacked endlessly from sources desperate to protect the image of the NGO’s, movements that propose their very raison d’être is to protect human rights. But it isn’t just those making noise that we should focus on, it is those remaining quiet. Groups who describe themselves as being on the far left of the political spectrum, those that frequently hide behind or use the material provided by these NGO’s have temporarily stopped posting and tweeting. They have nothing to say. Media outlets like the Guardian and Independent, who would have been banging down the doors if the situation was reversed, are ducking under cover until the furore dies down. They do not want to attack ‘their own’.

This isn’t to suggest NGO’s do not have a part to play, or to maintain Israel should treat NGO activity as hostile by default. Given the situation between Israel and the Palestinians, NGO’s should in theory be a welcome ‘checks and balances’ system between two sides of disproportionate power. But something is clearly very wrong in the situation as it now exists, and many NGO’s operating in this conflict have ‘taken sides’, in some cases have been overrun by actual combatants and they have almost all lost any internal compass as to what it is they are truly meant to be doing.

We have always known this hypocrisy existed. We are well aware that these groups, these media outlets, these individuals, work in unison and are driven by personal bias and hatred towards Israel rather than a true sympathy for the Palestinians. It would have been nice to see one, just one, stand up and give the unequivocal condemnation they always demand of others. Instead we are left with those attacking the messenger, weak attempts at diverting focus and an entire part of the political spectrum simply disappearing for a while. No, this is not a surprise, but it is solid evidence that the hatred we see directed towards Israel every day, is simply that, blind hatred. Hatred that emanates from a bunch of very vocal but equally morally deficient hypocrites. It is worth remembering that next time you see one of their reports.

Israeli Investigative TV Program Unsure of Its Facts

The Ta'ayush group is a persistent thorn in the side of the settlement enterprise. The fact it has been targeted by a leading TV investigative news show is itself worthy of investigation.

Itzik Goldway is 23. A sergeant in the reserves, last February he received a medal for his part in Operation Protective Edge (following a citation by the head of the regional command). Around the time he finished his compulsory service, he joined an organization called Ad Kan (“No More”), which was set up to spy on the tiny Israeli left wing. He and his girlfriend, Julia T., were sent to infiltrate the Arab-Jewish partnership Ta’ayush, and witnessed a number of attacks on Palestinians by Jewish settlers. They then went off to the Far East, from where they posted Facebook pictures of themselves smiling against the backdrop of lakes and snow-capped mountains.

Goldway and T. are the proof that, until proven otherwise, in every Israeli lurks a little Shin Bet security service officer.

Ezra Nawi, whom Goldway shadowed, is an easy target. He’s an aging Mizrahi homosexual with an old conviction for soliciting and having intercourse with a minor. He has a big mouth (and a foul one, to boot), sports headgear that makes him stand out from the nerdy norm; he’s an ex-plumber who is all but bankrupt thanks to his political activity. The police hide in ambush for him: unjustified traffic tickets are issued; he is hassled at home; military restraining orders are frequently issued against him and his Ta’ayush associates. He is a known figure in the magistrate’s court (either in the context of being arrested and charged, or making claims about the harassment against him).

And the settlers hate him. This is the first key to understanding the context of the story about him that was aired on Israeli investigative television show “Uvda” (“Fact”) last Thursday night. “Uvda” devoted its 600th episode to Ad Kan, thus bringing the organization’s existence to light. The show broadcast candid footage of Ad Kan people – masquerading as activists and supporters – who had been accompanying Nawi. Their faces were blurred, though, and their names changed in the program.

Ta’ayush is an easy target, too: It is neither an organization, nor an NGO. It has no charter or terms for accepting members; it is unsupervised, and there is no leadership or salaries. It is just a bunch of dedicated people devoting their lives and money to a cause. Their experience and temperament make them, in the eyes of right-wing activists, an “elite” that must be infiltrated.

For 15 years, Ta’ayush activists have been trying to prevent Palestinians living in the South Hebron Hills from being stripped of their homes, lands and livelihoods. They have served as a human shield against attacks by the settlers and Israel Defense Forces (both literally and metaphorically). That is the key to understanding the story shown on the prestigious news show.

Ta’ayush is a thorn stubbornly stuck in the well-greased machine of the Israeli army, Civil Administration, police, settlers and courts – a mechanism that is designed to expel as many Palestinians as possible from as much land as possible.

Let us believe that it is only due to their naïveté that the “Uvda” journalists became involved in the effort to extract that thorn. Ta’ayush and the reason for its existence – the policy of dispossession – are not the type of things that typically intrigues “Uvda.” The fact is that, checking the broadcasts of that prime-time slot from year-end 2014, not a single segment focuses on that Israeli-Jewish bonanza – the theft of land from Palestinians in the West Bank.

During that time, there were no “Uvda” stories about discrimination and dispossession of Israel’s Palestinian citizens, either. There were some segments on Arabs – Sayed Kashua; Mohammad Zoabi (who spoke out against the kidnap of the three Israeli yeshiva students in the West Bank); the arson attack on a bilingual school in Jerusalem; the Islamic State group.

The segment on Ad Kan was not true investigative journalism, for reasons elaborated on by +972 Magazine and the Friends of George blog (in Hebrew) . It was a puff piece for a privatized, mini-Shin Bet. If it had been investigative journalism, “Uvda” would have told us about Ad Kan’s funding sources and budget. It would have explained why the name of Goldway, as the recipient of a medal, appeared only in initials. Is the army associated with Ad Kan, and is it protecting Goldway from exposure, so he can spy on the left? (The IDF Spokesperson said that, for personal reasons, Goldway requested to be interviewed anonymously, and his full name is shown in the booklet of all medal recipients.)

If it had been investigative journalism, the correspondent would have probed and discovered whether the Palestinian Authority really did – as Nawi bragged, in a crude way that reflects only his stupid side – execute the land dealers he allegedly handed over to it.

If they had conducted an investigation, the correspondent would have discovered that the PA had long ceased carrying out executions. A real investigation would have checked who this land dealer is who suddenly popped up in Nawi’s life, and whether he is connected with Ad Kan.

An investigation would have provided the background and context for Nawi’s statements: the deceptiveness and cruelty of the Jewish land dealers and their collaborators; their methods of fraud; their deceptiveness and intimidation (instead of which, we hear the voice of a former Shin Bet officer and a current land dealer in the West Bank). Every Palestinian has the right to advise the PA about attempts to sell their land, and decent Israelis have an obligation to eschew any connection with the land robbers.

Ad Kan doesn’t hide the fact that its aim is to bring down left wingers, and thought it had caught one. It took Nawi’s unproven statements and manufactured generalizations, then used these unfounded generalizations to taint the left and human rights organizations.

These are familiar tactics of the right, big money and government, too. There is no point in raising eyebrows: we can only hope that in an era when human rights activists have to wear ID badges when entering the Knesset, it is extreme naïveté that led the “Uvda” correspondents to join the national trend of marking the opponents of occupation as criminals.

BRITISH AID was paid to left-wing activists in the Middle East accused of helping death squads torture and kill Palestinians, The Sun can reveal.

The Foreign Office were under fire last night after giving £227,988 of taxpayers’ cash to the B’Tselem group – who are accused by the Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu of sending “innocents” to “torture and execution”.

An activist from the “human rights group” was exposed for helping the Palestinian Authority’s secret police detain, beat up and even kill Palestinians caught selling land to Israeli Jews.

Police suspect left-wing activist Ezra Nawi of involvement in the murder of a Palestinian who lived near the Hebron Hills, Haaretz has reported. Nawi’s attorneys claim the man, nicknamed Abu Halil, died naturally in his sleep.
A judge on Friday extended Nawi’s remand until Sunday to allow police to conduct a clandestine investigation regarding Nawi, the nature of which was revealed to the judge in a classified document.
In the investigative report, aired by Channel 2’s Uvda program, Nawi can be heard speaking about four Palestinian real estate sellers, whom Nawi said mistook him for a Jew interested in buying their property. “Straight away I give their pictures and phone numbers to the Preventive Security Force,” Nawi is heard saying in reference to the Palestinian Authority’s counterintelligence arm. “The Palestinian Authority catches them and kills them. But before it kills them, they get beat up a lot.”
One of the men in whose death Nawi claims to have been involved in the video is Abu Halil, who according to official records died of a stroke in 2014.
Police believe Abu Halil was attempting to set up a land deal with Jewish buyers. Nawi, who learned of the plan, notified the plot owner, a relative of Abu Halil. The latter died, allegedly of a stroke, shortly thereafter. Police raised the possibility that by conveying the information about Abu Halil, Nawi was indirectly complicit in his death.
Abu Halil “died in his bed from an illness and there is no connection between the defendant and his death,” Nawi’s lawyer Eitan Peleg said at a discussion at the Jerusalem District Court. “Police knows this and must know it, and there is no problem getting a death certificate from the hospital to examine what was a person’s cause of death. One doesn’t need dozens of investigative procedures for this.”
Judge Yoad Cohen rejected Peleg’s claim, ruling that the suspicions warranted further investigation.
Police on Thursday blocked the court mandated release of a Palestinian arrested as part of the investigation. The Jerusalem District Court granted an unconditional release to Nasser Nawaj’ah, saying it had no jurisdiction on the matter. However, police then brought him before a military court at Ofer military prison in the West Bank, which agreed to extend his remand.
In the Palestinian Authority, the penal code calls for capital punishment for anyone convicted of selling land to Jews. This law, which Palestinian officials defended as designed to prevent takeovers by settlers, has not been implemented in Palestinian courts, where sellers of land to Jews are usually sentenced to several years in prison.

The IDF will not appeal a Judea military court order from Sunday to release B’Tselem activist Nasser Nawaja.

Nawaja was arrested last week along with Ezra Nawi and Guy Boteva on suspicion of conspiring to murder a land dealer by turning him over to the PA’s Preventative Security Service for selling West Bank land to Jews.

The IDF prosecution had sought a stay of the court’s order on Sunday to potentially appeal to the West Bank Military Appeals Court, but has ultimately decided not to fight the order, The Jerusalem Post has learned.

Nawaja will be released along with Nawi and Boteva who were previously ordered released by the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court on Sunday about two weeks after being arrested for the same suspicions following an investigative report on Channel 2’s Uvda investigative news program.

Nawi’s lawyer, Eitan Peleg, and Nawaja’s lawyer, Gabi Lasky, have attacked the arrests throughout as political crusades in the guise of criminal investigations.
