A tanker carrying a hazardous substance has overturned on the M56 in Cheshire causing huge tailbacks.

Police said a significant amount of the unidentified substance, which was said to not be explosive, has leaked onto the road.

A 400m cordon is in place around the scene of the crash and motorists within view of the vehicle have been advised to turn off their air conditioning systems and close their windows.

People living in the Plover Lane area of Helsby were also told to stay indoors with their windows and doors closed.

A small number of casualties have been treated by paramedics.

LIARS  see t eorange label on the blue area of the overturned tanker...that has a number on it

its called the "UN number"  and identifies the substance carried.....the fire brigade will know what it is and besides one quick radio call and so would the cop.....

it also has advice for the fire brigade in the form of a code

so for a fuel tanker

UN 1332 (fuel) dont think petrol and fuel oil are seperate)
3YE 3.....highly flammable use foam (or compatible) Y wear breathing app E....Evacuate.....

What is the number/substance?

dunno tommy I cant make it out AND I only know a few....

the public dont have acces to that database, at least not easily...

the photo has been "fudged" by the look of it...
