Tory Government Colluding With Big Business Tax Avoiders, Union Claims
The Tory Government has been accused of effectively colluding with big business in helping them to avoid paying tax, it was revealed yesterday.
Construction sector businesses are adopting the illegal practice of making workers self-employed, which then allows them to avoid paying National Insurance of 18.3% per worker.
Workers pushed into self-employment – sometimes used as a condition of employment – are denied holiday pay, sick pay and can be sacked with little or no warning.
Figures obtained by UCATT through the Freedom of Information Act suggest the HMRC is paying less and less attention to the notorious practice.
The number of construction companies fined for this illegal practice has fallen from 57 in 2012/13, to just 24 in 2013/14.
This comes as the HMRC has reduced the number of inspections in this area from 5,337 in 2012/13, 3,567 to a mere 2,421 in 2014/15.
UCATT claims the number of construction companies pushing workers into bogus self-employment is growing, and says the Government is effectively endorsing the practice.
UCATT Acting General Secretary, Brian Rye, said: “If ever there was a clear indication that this Tory Government is predicated entirely on enriching the bosses – this [is] it.
“Construction workers are honest, hard-working people forced into this bogus and entirely false self-employment status purely to enrich the corporations and those that run them..”
He added: “The Inland Revenue should not be an agency for the rich. It should serve all the people of Great Britain.
“These tax avoidance practices are the blight of our industry and are growing year on year. And yet HMRC is doing less and less to catch the culprits.
“It’s a national disgrace.”
UCATT is the UK’s only trade union specialising in construction and has over 80,000 members throughout the UK.

At a time when the National Debt has been more than doubled by this government, and they are getting less and less in taxes, this situation is iniquitous and shows exactly where they stand.

It is, but knowing the horrors that they have to endure and the length of time it takes for the travelling under the most awful conditions, I simply disagree with the premise. If you are starving and you move for work, does that make you an economic migrant, not in my book it doesn't and if you are being bombed and gassed, it definitely doesn't. And now Russia are bombing as well, so the people on Syria will have more to contend with.
Nobody would do what they are doing without a damned good reason, because I doubt very much whether any of us could manage it.

This is why I didn't go on that thread, because I'm bloody fed up of people who have never had to go through anything like it, and living in a country that helped cause it, moaning because we have go to do something about it. Why they have to destroy their papers: https://refugeeactioncoalitionsydney.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/factsheet-re-no-id-papers.pdf
Yes, it's a problem that has never happened before, but as it was mostly the West who caused this, we're gonna have to bloody deal with it.
Now, could we stick to this thread please.

They can't can they, they can't afford to. It's the Government that should be stopping it because it's illegal, why should the workers suffer because the companies are getting away with it. Sometimes Victor I think we should tear down the fabric and start again, with them that does the work in charge.

If anyone says they know how to deal with it they are lying, it's unprecedented, but brought on our shoulders by the governments of the West. My last word.

Although they are not 'starving' and 'moving for food'... are they Sassy...!?
All looking well fed to me...
But then they ARE all getting plenty of food And shelter from all the safe countries they are coming from and through...
So also not having any real genuine claim to be asylum seekers when arriving from safe countries that are free from war Or persecution...!!!

Are you that thick Tommy, if you read Victors post I was not talking about hunger re Syrian refugees, but other refugees.
Now would you like to comment on the OP, because it's very important to this country, now.

Re: Tory Government Colluding With Big Business Tax Avoiders, Union Claims
Mass immigration is driving up costs of living and businesses simply cannot keep paying ever more to keep up with this as well as remain competitive and profitable... the costs will eventually outweigh them and they will fold... creating higher unemployment and extra cost to taxpayers... meaning increasingly higher taxes on those remaining in work/business... and then these extra costs will have an even more detrimental effect forcing even more out of business... more unemployment etc etc...
