A new survey of more than 10,000 NHS employees reveals 65% are seriously considering leaving their jobs
The NHS faces a mass “staff exodus” with two in three planning to quit, a shock report warns.
As many as 65% of health workers are seriously considering leaving their jobs, according to a major study of more than 10,000 NHS staff published tonight.
More than 1.3million people work for the NHS in the UK.
The figures suggest hundreds of thousands of dedicated staff are considering quitting, which would represent the biggest crisis the health service has faced since its launch in 1948.
This comes after three-quarters of UK hospitals have already been warned about dangerous staff shortages.

The Care Quality Commission - the health regulator - recently found patient safety was being put at risk because of a lack of staff on wards.
Four in five (82%) said their workload was now bigger than ever before, as were their stress levels (79%), and the number of patients they were caring for (62%), according to the report by union UNISON.
Alarmingly, more than a third (36%) said that as a result, they believe the quality of care provided to patients has got worse - further putting patient safety at risk.
Growing numbers have either already left or are on the brink of resigning because of a combination of low pay, staff shortages, and the changing nature of the NHS.
UNISON General Secretary Dave Prentis slammed the Government over its controversial £3billion reorganisation of the NHS which he said had allowed the health service to “implode”.
He warned thousands of staff were now on the verge of exiting because of “chronic understaffing” and “mounting pressure” which had given them “no other option but to leave”.

Dave Prentis: He has warned "mounting pressure" is leaving staff with no option but to leave
Those that are left after colleagues have fled are then more likely to want to go too because in many areas their colleagues are not being replaced - leaving them to pick up their work.
The NHS faces a brain drain to other countries with thousands flocking to work in healthcare in the US, Canada, Australia, Dubai and even countries like Qatar.
The UNISON report comes after separate figures revealed earlier this month that as many as 500 NHS doctors a day are applying to work abroad.
Mr Prentis told the Mirror: “Ministers wasted a huge amount on a costly reorganisation the NHS did not need.
“They are allowing our NHS to implode and need to recognise that the squeeze on NHS finances is directly affecting staff and patients.
“The chronic understaffing and mounting pressure on NHS workers mean many are at the very end of their tethers and feel they have no other option but to leave.
"It is not right that so many health staff now have second jobs just to make ends meet.
“But NHS pay scales have fallen way behind living costs so nurses, healthcare assistants, ambulance staff and medical secretaries have to work as many hours as they can to be able to feed their families and pay their bills.

Pressure mounting: Medical staff are being left with no choice but to leave
"Health staff work beyond their hours to care for those who need it.
“The Government must recognise the risk to patient care and raise salaries now to stop an NHS staff exodus. The health service cannot afford to lose its dedicated and skilled workforce.”
The UNISON report - entitled Undervalued, Overwhelmed - is based on a survey of 10,500 NHS workers.
Those surveyed included staff from a wide range of areas within the NHS.
They included NHS HR staff, clerical workers, IT technicians, nurses, paramedics, secretaries, finance officers, senior managers, mental health practitioners, pharmacists, physiotherapists, dentists, ward managers, social care workers, cleaners, porters, maintenance staff, chefs, healthcare assistants and midwives.
The report warns staff are considering quitting for three main reasons - as a result of low pay (58%), staff shortages (58%) and thechanging nature of the NHS (56%).
Almost two in three (64%) reported that staff shortages were a frequent occurrence, and 67% said that there weren’t enough staff to do the work required.
Worryingly, one in five (21%) said that their employer was not doing anything to prevent about staff shortages. Almost half (49%) reported relying on agency staff.
As a result, more than half of NHS workers (55%) are doing unpaid overtime every week. For three-quarters (76%) this is up to five hours a week unpaid, while for a quarter (24%) it is six hours or more.

Overworked: More than half of NHS staff have to do unpaid overtime
The biggest reason for all this unpaid overtime was that the job would be impossible to do without it (50%), while one in four (41%) said they did it because they wanted to provide the best care possible for patients.
One ward sister working in the NHS in the North West, speaking anonymously, said: “I think the workload and pressure are underestimated. I don’t think people realise that our wages are going down, while many of us have to work free hours just to keep on top of things.”
An occupational therapist in Scotland, who also wanted their identity withheld, added: “We should get a decent cost of living increase. But what we do get is a kick in the teeth. Especially as they keep asking for more and more with less and less.”
Of those who said they were overworked, half admitted it had a detrimental effect upon their personal health (49%) and more than a quarter (27%) on their family lives.
The main reason why so many staff remain in the NHS was their commitment to the service and to patients (54%). But the fact that a quarter (25%) said they were only still in post because they couldn’t find another job may be a concern because it suggests they will leave too when the labour market picks up.
A medical secretary working in the NHS in the North West told the report’s authors: “This time next year I won’t be able to afford to stay in this job.”
A Department of health spokesman said: "The most recent staff survey shows the majority would recommend their hospital as a place of work.
"We already have more than 20,200 extra clinical staff since May 2010, 50,000 nurses currently in training and our recent pay deal gave more than a million of the lowest paid NHS staff a pay rise."
It also said NHS England is investing £5million in a staff wellbeing initiative. But nursing groups and NHS campaigners reacted with horror to the "shocking" figures.
They warned that "serious underfunding" of the NHS and "reckless" Government health policies were in danger of bringing the health service "to its knees".
Too busy: Staff are leaving NHS hospitals
Josie Irwin of the Royal College of Nursing said: "Morale among NHS staff is in freefall.
"These figures are shocking, but they are not a surprise. It is deeply ironic that many nurses are longing to escape at the very time that the NHS is desperate for skilled staff.
"Instead of being valued, rewarded and supported, nursing staff are overstretched, underpaid and under pressure.
"It is perverse that due to a lack of staff and rising demand for care, the NHS is having to pay for short term fixes such as agency and overseas staff, while it is also alienating long serving and committed staff.
"If staff are treated well, they will stay with the NHS and deliver the best care to those who need it - they should be supported to do so."
Clive Peedell, a consultant oncologist and co-leader of the National Health Action party, said: "It couldn't be any clearer that this Government's reckless policies, serious underfunding and constant attacks are driving away staff, putting patients at risk and now threaten an exodus that could bring the NHS to its knees.
"Just as the junior doctors are standing up against unsafe and unfair contracts, we need the public to stand with us in telling the Tories they won't tolerate the strangling of our NHS."

Fox report! Yep, that's why there are so many of them carrying their children
And the younger ones without families come because they do not want to be forced into the army and end up killing their own relatives, or being forced to join ISIS etc.
Anyway, I'm for bed, night.

Re: NHS doctors make 700 applications to work abroad in just ONE day as junior medics balloted to strike
There does seem to be a big problem with the NHS here, and the main problem is that doctors simply don't have enough time to see their patients properly. When you see a doctor or a consultant, you can almost hear them thinking about when they can get rid of you and see the next patient. This can lead to misdiagnoses and misunderstandings between doctors and patients.
I think this leads patients to be pissed off and also the doctors. If I was a doctor, and was actually enthusiastic about my work, I'd be pissed off if I had to treat patients like they were on a conveyor belt.
