''Redcar steel jobs tragedy exposes truth behind Tory 'northern powerhouse' propaganda''
George Osborne should have been there, not showering our cash on a China exporting the cheap steel that cost British people their jobs
Tories should never again dare to call the region a northern powerhouse after the mothballing of an industrial giant.
The loss of 1,700 Redcar steel jobs and thousands more in business, shops and services reliant on the workers’ spending is a tragedy.
And the response of the Government? Just tea and sympathy instead of concrete help which exposes propaganda about the Tories caring for the area as hollow mockery.
Ian Forsyth
Vigil: But workers and contractors have been laid off
Chancellor George Osborne should have been in Redcar last week talking to workers and managers instead of kowtowing to the Chinese, showering our cash on a country exporting the cheap steel that cost British people their jobs.
When the “northern powerhouse” badly needed a boost, Osborne’s low watt indifference failed Redcar.
Steel workers deserve a Government fighting to save their jobs.

But they aren't going to get it with this shower. They could have stopped cheap steel from abroad in it's tracks, they chose not to, because they don't give a fuck.

they could not stop cheap steel
if you did then No one would buy anything off the UK
that is a naive political stance that may have been possible last century
Globalization is here to stay the answer is not to try and build artificial walls, the UK(and Europe) is in such a mess because it has built so many artificial walls that cant hold back the modern world anymore.
The UK needs to stop trying to do everything and just focus on a few things and to them well so it is actually the leader in an industry and will attract jobs because it is the best in that industry, rather than being half arsed in everything and losing jobs because nothing is cost effective.

It's done all the time Veya, a surcharge is put on to imports until the price goes up again.
The purpose of setting import Surtaxes
1.To meet the balance of payments crisis, to maintain balance between imports and exports. The United States happens the first trade deficit in 1970’s. Nixon administration in order to meet the balance of payments crisis, they implement the “new economic policy” and announced the levy of foreign imports 10% of all import surcharges;2.Prevent dumping of foreign goods.
3.Discrimination against a particular country or retaliation. Thus import surcharges, also known as special tariffs.
June this year:
NEW DELHI: India has slapped anti-dumping duty of up to $316 per tonne on imports of certain steel products from three countries, including China, to protect domestic producers from below-cost inbound shipments.
A duty of $309 per tonne has been imposed on imports from China, while $316 per tonne duty has been fixed for Malaysia and $180 per tonne for Korea.
The Finance Ministry imposed the duty on the recommendation of Directorate General of Anti-Dumping Duty.

Whoever can see out the times when the price is low and non-proft making the longest gets the spoils and controls the price.
British Steel almost went to the wall in the 70s and it was anti-dumping duty that stabilised the price and took away the advantage the Japanese were getting from trying to dump their steel production in the UK.

And YES Sassy people do that and their trade goes down. They never regain that production position, No one has since they started doing that shit in the 70's strangely when the West forced everyone else to suck it up and bare the destruction of their industries the other people become more competitive now that the shoe is on the other foot the west tried to block it, and has so far failed and only cost it's self production. look at the USA continual reduction in production since Nixon
new world since then IrnIn the mid-1970s, the relatively developed countries of North.
America, Western Europe and Japan accounted for nearly two-third of the world’s steel production. But gradually the spatial pattern has changed and attention has now shifted to the developing regions.
Towards the end of the last century, the growth of steel production in countries like China, South Korea, Brazil and India has changed the entire pattern of steel production in the world.

No it still happens to this day and the EC are currently investigating the Chinese dumping their steel in the UK and Europe.

Australia’s Anti-Dumping Commission is investigating about a dozen cases of alleged dumping of low-priced steel products from Asian countries, including China. Industry minister Ian Macfarlane said the allegation is that steel mills in other countries have been making minor alterations to steel products or routing them through third countries to circumvent Australia’s antidumping laws.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/06/18/china-steel-exports-idUSL3N0Z11QD20150618After the European Commission launched an anti-dumping probe against Russia and China in May, a spokesman for China's Ministry of Commerce said the surge in Chinese steel exports was "normal and also beyond reproach", and reflected increased demand and the strong competitiveness of domestic steelmakers.
"Chinese steel exports are likely to hit a fresh record of 100 million tonnes this year, as there is demand but no other countries can fill the gap and our prices are competitive," said Xia Junyan, an analyst with Everbright Futures in Shanghai.
China's exports were previously anticipated to slow this year after the removal of rebates for boron-added steel products. But shrinking demand at home has left producers needing to sell surplus steel overseas.
The west just doesn't like that China does it better simple as that
Globalization means who ever does it best does it, the west profited from that idea for decades now the others are catching up and passing and suddenly it's not fair
China is right to tell the West "Fuck you" those plants then UK should close the are inefficient costly and wasteful (other wise they would be profitable)
literally they are just wasting resources so a Brit makes it instead of Chinese.
And that minister has already gotten the ass. He was a Tony Abbott/Murdoch Cock polisher
